What Knife do you use for Castration?

Years ago on the farm we used some curved bladed knives to slash the sacks and milk the testicles out. What are they doing today? What works best and what different knives do you use for different animals?

When I was working on a hog farm, we used a scalpel. You don't want to carry bacteria on the blade, so you keep it clean, and change it after using it on a few animals.

I am sure a small, sharp knife would work fine as well.

I don't know anybody who uses knives. Most people use rubber bands. There are also devices for bloodlessly crushing the cords.

Once upon a time a vet just got a new rubber-bander for bulls and wanted to practice. We had an adult ram who needed to be castrated because of health problems. The vet really struggled to get the rubber band over his balls.
