What knife do you wish you bought earlier?

For me, it's the Kershaw Scallion. I've know about it for years, have friends swear by them and own other Ken Onion designs. But, never actually bought my own.

Well, that changed recently and I couldn't be more pleased. The design is a real winner, just the right size for office carry. I have an aluminum scale version and it's quite rigid but nice and light. The blade shape/size also seems just right for most of my week day activities.

I wish I got a Scallion years ago!

it was about 3 years ago and i was in a local knife shop and i almost bought a spyderco lum chinese folder that they had in stock for 70 bucks. I opted instead for the spyderco navigator instead because it was only 40 bucks and wasnt a liner lock. Im still bitter about that one. I look for the chinese folder on ebay from time to time and the PE version usually goes for about 200 bucks.

I have a couple I recently got and I'm very pleased with them.

Kershaw Leek. Not a fan of liner locks, aluminum scales, obtuse factory edges, assisted openers etc. The lock hasn't failed me or moved significantly, the scales are quite functional, once reprofiled the knife cus very well due to the thin blade stock and I've come to like just tapping the flipper and having my knife ready to use. This is a very good size for EDC IMO, I carry in the front pocket clipless and it's not too noticable. The ergos are slightly off for me and I'd still prefer a different lock, otherwise my only complaint is the thick factory edge, which is a problem I have with about 95% of the knives I buy anyways.

Boker Wharcom. I've eyed the subcom and wharcom for a while, and more recently the trance, but only recently got my first one. Very secure and comfortable grip, well done framelock (Though it took some getting used to for me to operate), good FRN texture and comes in one of my top 3 steels, AUS8. I thinned the edge out slightly and gave it a high polish on my strops and it's one of the sharpest knives in my EDC rotation now. Carries comfortably in the watch pocket, front pocket or behind my wallet and the thumbstud acts as a wave, making it my first waved knife. Great value and again surprisingly comfortable and secure ergos for a small knife.

Spyderco Military. I always thought it looked too big, I don't like liner locks etc. I was impressed by the ergonomics and lightness of the knife. My large folder of choice for months was a G10 Byrd, but this one is a little more comfortable and secure feeling in the hand, is lighter and carries better clipless due to the handle length and lightness, which help keep it from falling horizontal. The liner lock seems very sturdy and has become easy to operate after a few openings. Like most every other knife I get, the edge could be a little thinner, but the overall blade geometry and shape is one I'm very fond of. I really like Spydercos with no steel liners or nested steel liners and G10 handles. They're lightweight and every bit as strong as I need. This fits me a lot better than the Para did.

What knife do I wish I had bought earlier? All of them.

Just about all of them. I had a chance to buy Loveless knives for $35 when no one knew who he was. How about Moran knives for $35 to $50? I used to buy Ruana knives for $10 to $15 for prizes for our muzzle loading rifle club matches.

Of course, that was in 1968 and I was making $119 a week. Who would have ever guessed that a Moran or Loveless would be selling for four or five figures?

Im going to say my Byrd Meadowlark. I just got it today but I had been reading about their quality in comparison to price for probably 6 months. I dont know why I was being so tight. Its also the only knife I currently have that will shave my arm(granted my collection isnt as big as 75% of this site's).

I wish that I had known about Buck's Custom Shoppe 110 folders sooner...

I wish I had bought a Timberline Spec-War fixed blade. Man do I wish I had that knife.:(

Randalls in the 70's
CRK Umfaans in '97 -- lots of them.

Of course, had I bought a bunch of GOOG in 2004, I could be buying any knives I want today.

D*mn thats nice! This was a knife heavy winter for me (i'm a self-confessed ebay junkie), when my wallet recovers i will probably succumb to a custom 110 similar to yours.
However If they had custom 112's i'd probably succumb right now!
:)

Guys,
As a college student in the 60's at Oregon, I (and my wife) had the chance to buy NIKE at $1/ share and Oregon Freeze Dry at $1/ share. We did not. We took our $1,000 and bought a CAR. Talk about bad purchases.
In the knife department, I already know I screwed up and DID NOT buy one of the BF NWA knives. Every time I look at the pictures of that knife I know that is the knife I have always wanted. Just no money (or sense?) when I needed it.

When i was 16 i was introduced to Opinels but I didn't warm to them at all didn't buy any and forgot they existed until recently.
Now many years later i've finally grown to appreciate them.
