Well I am sure he carries all of his designs. But somewhere I read something a while back that he carried the Commander the most.

Any word on this?

I just found this on the internet. An interview with Mr. Emerson:

I'm a blue jeans guy so that's what I'm wearing most of the time. In fact when I get "dressed up" I just put on my newest pair. I'm not so concerned about carrying a small pocket knife in nice slacks for example, so I always carry a full size knife. I've switched it up over the years, but one thing that hasn't changed is this; I always carry a partially serrated knife. Which is also what I recommend for everyone. I've used my knives in at least 4 emergencies that we've come up on over the years and the serrations were vital in each case. I've carried a CQC-7, a CQC-12, a Commander, an OBS Folder and a Tiger which is the knife in my pocket right now. It would be a tossup between a Tiger and the Commander if I had to grab a knife as I ran out the door. Both are excellent tools and work equally as well in a utility role or as a weapon if I ever needed one. The Tiger is a badass knife.

I need to get an HD7. That is a knife I dream about. Unfortunately the new ones have bearings, but on the plus side they have a steel lockbar tab.

The older ones have washers and a backspacer but no tab. I would be happy with either one in good working order. I think the cqc7 is an ultimate edc knife and the only thing that could make it better is being thinner. (Hence framelock) i would be very happy with any Emerson framelock but the Hd7 I dream of. I am actually going to send my ZT0620 in to get a liner delete so it will be closer to my dream knife.

So it seems Ernie prefers the Commander and the Tiger. Both sweet knives but if I had to choose a full size Emerson to edc it would be the Iron Dragon hands friggin’ down.

So is he saying he has a partially serrated Tiger? That would be interesting.

I'm assuming the models he does carry are customs that he makes.

Oh that's easy : Victorinox Classic
and when he goes on a mission the Victorinox Mini Champ (he likes to have a stealth light with him and the orange peeler). Since I want to be just like him that's what I carry too !

If I recall correctly, in one of the older SHOT show YouTube videos, he showed the Commander he carried at that time. He said he was the president of the company, he'd carry something he could pull out and show. Seemed like a pretty basic Commander with some pocket clip bling, etc. Memory is quickly fading, but that's what I remember!

I remember seeing that video to. I wish I could find it. I can do a search but what was the subject beside SHOT show?

If anyone finds it please post the link here.

For some reason I would have thought he carried a CQC-7 instead of a Commander (since he chooses to carry production models). Since the CQC-7 is his flagship model . I wonder if he prefers the Commander for self defense purposes more or because it fits the hand better? Or does he consider the heavy recurve of the Commander the better slicer for utilitarian needs as well?

I know this question I have is kinda silly because there are so many models and customs he makes. But curiousity is what is driving me here. We all can prefer one over another on any given day.

In the TNP 2012 interview posted above, he mentions that he used to carry a beat up cqc-7. The Commander is also one of his flagship models and was his first production model that offered the wave. The bigger size of the commander also helps accommodate all the extra bling to show off to new people =p.
