Hey all. Well, my dad's brithday has just arrived. He lives in another state and I will be traveling soon to see him. So...I have a question/quest/service to ask of you all. Since we have some bright minds and people with some experience, I need your advice.

My dad has an appreciation for unique things. We both love blades, and he is a more "traditional" style character. He is accustomed to primative tools and vintage blades. He is not an expert on these things but if he knows it has some history, or a use in history, then he loves it.

This leads me to my question/quest. I was looking at the Frontier Utility Knife from Atlanta Cutlery.

This is basically my price range. What do you all think? An decent gift or are there any other somewhat special knives you could get for around this price? I am willing to go to $100 but I have to get this thing shipped to me very soon. Thanks a million for your help -Damion

Looks like a really nice knife to me! Either me or my dad would be pleased to get that as a gift :)

visionsect, any gift knife from a Son will become an instant heirloom.I have several and all have special meaning. You can't go wrong with a slip joint Case(ie Trapper or Stockman) but if you think the Frontier knife is what He'd like get that.Good to hear kids still love their Dads.tom.

Knives are such personal things that you might want to ask him. The knife you listed is beautiful, but it may have limited application for many things. Still, if someone gave me one, I'd probably keep it.

Wow. First of all, I would really like to thank you all for your swift replies. All of your help is greatly appreciated. My dad has, and always will be my hero. Too many people my age do not appreciate their parents these days. You could call me old fashioned. Although I would hate to think love and honor is old fashioned. We have shared, used, and abused many knives and other tools over the years. Thanks to your help, I think I can confidently send this gift his way, as well as use the other ideas you all have given for future gifts. All the knives you have suggested are absolutely wonderful!

Mr. Dowling, I loved the link. Great choice my friend! Thank you very much.

I will let you all know what he thinks when he receives his gift. Take care all -Damion

The Kiwi is a great combo of modern design and materials with a traditional feel with the Jigged bone.

A couple years ago my son (then 7) decided he wanted to get me a knife for Fathers day. My parents were in town the week prior and I had chosen a few knife pictures of ones I likes including the all SS Kiwi (to keep prices down). While here we went by a knife store so they could take my son to choose a gift and he chose the Jugged bone Kiwi. My dad linked the knife so much and talked about it on the trip home that my mom called and had me go get one for him for his father's day goft that year too. It is a good choice!
