Hi guys,

I am looking for some info on this knife. All I know is it's a 3,5", but what gen is it? I don't get it with the elevated screws.

Thank you

Peter

Maybe a previous owner did some mix and match with screws off of a few different XMs? I've done it with ano screws from one xm to another many times but I've never swapped them across generations.

The theory of swapping screws between knifes of a previous owner sounds plausible.
I don't think it's a fake. I just want to know if specs are gen3 in case I want to change the scale.

Ah, I didn't know that. Thanks guys.
But I can change screws to the flat ones (I think they would fit better with a carbon scale if I find one)?

Yes the flat screws will fit all of the generations according to the info on the monkeys edge site.

if anyone has any more info please let me know.

You guys already have it covered, early Gen 3 with the domed screws. You could certainly swap to the newer in-house flat screws (which I believe are nicer than the domed screws). The knife appears to be authentic.

Did you keep it the way it was or did you swap.
Should I stay "original" though I think the flat screws look smoother?

I can tell you that the early domed screws strip very easily compared to the new style flat ones. Something to keep in mind if you change scales frequently. I'd get the new flat ones and keep the old domed ones for an "authentic" look down the road.

Oh, and those old style clip screws are even worse when it comes to stripping. New ones are a definite improvement.

I just love the look of the newer style screws. They look "fancier" and like they're made with extreme precision (which I'm sure they are!). All personal preference, ya know! I always thought the older gen screws looked cheaper. And probably the number one reason why I like them better is cause Rick and crew makes them in-house, rather than purchasing the round screws from an outside source. Very cool!

The stripping of the screws is a good point. I also agree that the newer in house screws fit better.
