What knife is it?
I cant post a photo, it's on the cover of bushcraft the ultimate guide to survival in the wilderness book.

you can, if you find it on the internet - right click - copy image location - and paste that inside of [.img] [./img] (remove periods)
... looks like a really generic fixed blade from a few years back

Gerber Freeman.

Comes with at least four different handle scale choices. Looks like they scrubbed the trademark out so they wouldn't have to pay royalties.

Gerber's heat treat is lackluster. If you can tell us what you like about this knife, perhaps we can suggest some alternatives that will give you more user satisfaction.....

I second the above statement. If that's a style you like check out Freeman outdoor gear!! He left Gerber and started his own company! I've always liked his designs!

Huh. That's why the name is the same. I didn't know that!

I like his stuff too, but it feels quite a bit different from the Gerber design. They ought to handle roughly the same, but not everybody likes thumb ramps, and it seems hard to get away from them on his self-produced designs. I'm sure he'd be happy to do a rampless 451 4" or 5" as a custom, but that may be out of the OP's cost comfort zone.

I wonder what would happen if you just removed the handles from a Gerber Freeman and sent it away to somebody who would give it a proper heat treat......
