What knife kits are worth buying?

I have seen different types of knife kits. Some look simple enough. Others look slightly more complicated.

On the whole, what are the ones that are value for money?

Who has bought a few different ones and have tried them all out?

All the kits on www.kitknives.com are good stuff, if you follow their skill level rating guidelines you should be able to make some very nice knives.

www.texasknife.com also has good stuff (and a much bigger selection). Pretty much any of the kits again, will make a quality knife. The materials aren't necesarrily the best, but definitely useable quality from what I've seen. Some of the folders will require a little more tweaking to get really good results, but should be serviceable either way, they just aren't manufactured to the same tolerances as the kits on kitknives.com in some cases.

The Darrel Ralph-designed kits at knifekits.com are top quality, and fun to do! The forum there provides expert help (including some from Mr. Ralph)

If you check out the gallery of completed work, you'll see some real pieces of art-- showing that you can make just the basic kit, or go all-out in creating your own custom knife.

You will definitely not be disappointed in the quality of service and technical support you can get from these guys!

Just took a peek at Kitknives.com. They have an easy range of knife kits. The fixed blades look real nice. Maybe I will take a chance with that. My DIY skills are above sea level right now! :D

I have an old Morseth kit knife that needs finishing if you're intersted. Gorgeous stag.

The kits at knifekits are also available elsewhere, such as Koval. The DDR1 can be gotten from Koval, I know someone who has made 2. They look good and have stood up to 2 years of use so far. I've seen more than a few of the finished DD1 knife kits being sold for $100 - 140, one guy had a set of 5 each with a different handle color. Sometimes Koval puts a fairly deep discount on their kits at gun or knife shows. Koval and Texas Supply both offer other types of kits, such as lockbacks, though with less detailed or no instuctions.
