What Knife/Knives Would You Carry in Perfect Peacetime?

[I've posed this question before, but I forget how far back.]

Some non-knife people look at me funny when I tell them that in a perfectly peaceful world I'd still carry knives - even some people who have borrowed a knife from me, or had me do a mundane cutting chore for them.

So, let us assume for the moment that peace has broken out, both collectively and individually, but otherwise earthly life goes on, and there are things to make and food to grow and process, and the laws of nature, including Murphy's Law, are still in effect, so emergencies can happen, and your disposable income is still finite. There are no restrictions on what knives you can carry, because nobody is afraid of you and your knives.

What knife or knives would you carry on a "normal day"? Be as specific or general as you want.

I think I'd want at least a good multitool, a serrated folder with a thumbhole in the Endura-Military-AFCK class, something resembling my William Henry Lancet in my shirt pocket, the nicest (useful and good-looking) 3"-4" slim lightweight fixed blade I could make or afford in a swinger sheath, and a hell-for-stout 6"-7" "camp knife" in an IWB sheath where it would be out of my way most of the time.

Oh - I'd want a good high-techie switchblade in a belt pouch somewhere around my girth, just because I could now carry and use one without scaring people!

I`d be carrying the same knives I carry today. I don`t carry knives for self defense. I feel as though I live in a relatively peaceful time.

Therefore, I`d continue to carry my Random or Mini Tasks, or my new Mel Pardue Axis lock.

James this may surprise you, but I'm usually at peace, I'm a lover not a fighter. With that said I would still carry a big Stag handle Bowie just for show. Next would be a one hander (liner lock) damascus drop point or warncliff blade, stag of course. Finally a SAK, not all the tools just a few, and again stag scales. With those three knives I think I'd be able to handle anything that could come my way.

There are NO non-knife people, unless they (always) eat with their fingers...
Milk grows in the supermarket, on milktrees and beef is produced in Chicago in a huge greenhouse.
There are strings to cut, shrubs to cut back, and a million other things that require a knife. So knives were the first tools to be used, as soon as we "climbed down". Sheeple who shy away from knives are mentally still "climbing", I think.
A SAK on my keyring and a Spydie Cricket is the bare minimum I carry. The cricket is a "all day, all night" companion, only exception: when taking a shower.
Happy cutting

Interesting topic James,
I like big knives, therefore, I would probably carry something in the RTAK/Battle Mistress class. What I am most happy about in your world, is that people wouldn't look at me like I was a serial killer. I would also carry a Sifu. I don't own one, but I am enamored with it's looks and I have heard good things about it. The last piece I would carry would be the new multi-tool from Gerber. The one with the "Wave" style knife and replaceable saw blade.
By the way James, could I also carry a Freedom Arms .475 Linebaugh without people staring?(For utility purposes only)

Take care, (AND the biggest baddest phallic symbols you can muster)

Since I'm usually at peace with myself now, I'd carry my same combination that I carry now. At work, a folder like an Endura or Calypso Jr. in my pocket and a Micra on my keychain. When I'm not working, I have a Victorinox Ranger in my fanny pack and my keychain has a Micra and a Ladybug. These combinations are pretty light and low key and they've worked well so far.

I probably wouldn't change much either. I carry a Buck 705 for 99% of the daily "knife-stuff", and a Gigand Summit for the heavier stuff. I might tend to leave the Summit at home more often, though.

Attention: Some assembly may be required. Batteries not included.

If there were absolute peace, it would be a knife olver's paradise because one could carry anything without the assumption by others that one is looking for trouble. I'd still carry some one hander like my William Henry or my gobs of Spydercos & Benchmades.

I’d carry what I carry now, for I am perfectly at peace

I, too, would not change my daily carry. I might, occasionally, take larger knives out for a 'walk', since I could, and people wouldn't mind, but in general, the things I use my knives for every day would not change. I could just un-learn how to deftly insert sharp objects into other people.

Since everyone would be at piece, no one would mind me carrying a larger knife. The most useful knife I have ever found was your basic fixed blade w/ serrated edges on the back. Probably would be a Ka Bar next generation fighter. Or maybe SOG Pentagon. Neither of which I own right now. Actually, now that I think about it, I'd like to have a saw too, so I'm going to add the TOPS Steel Eagle, but the one I would carry would not have a tanto edge, like the one I have now.

No change. Except maybe I'd waste less time trying to decide whether to be PC and carry my CF Dragonfly, rather than my Centofante Jr., to work on any given day.

Jim,

Maybe this would be a good time to bring back our orange handled, wind up, musicbox Automatic knife, what do you think?

I think for a while at least i'd carry everything i could get my hands on, just for the novelty of carrying half my weight in sharpened steel

Then i'd drop back to A battle mistress, A nice serrated folder probably the military, a Leatherman Wave, and my current SAK. That would probably do it. I'd change the BM and the Military around a bit, probably for a project II and a busse folder (if they ever come out).

All knives are created equal, then i get my dirty big hands on them and the real fun begins.

Halo II and Livesay Company Knife. Somebody would have to protect and maintain the peace.

I'd carry the same as I carry now. A medium sized swiss army knife in the left pocket and in the right, a small swiss army and small sog w/pliers in a leather pouch and until recently, a Wenger Jr now replaced by a small Sebenza.

I would probably carry some kind of fixed blade, probably a marble fieldcraft or, if I was trekking into the woods, a Becker Companion.

I could also see myself ditching the medium SAK and carrying an SAK Multitool or Leatherman Wave on the hip.

I don't carry for self defense. I'd most likely carry what I usually carry. BM 330, 820 or 812. Leatherman micra, wave or super tool.

Hmmmm Perfect Peacetime is there such a thing? You never know when it will end so I probably wouldn't change the type or number of knives I normally carry.

But since I'm guessing what you are searching for I would say for your question it would be the William Henry line of knives, as they are Sheeple friendly knives but still do the work, or the Chris Reeve Umfaan also a surprise to folks when you actually cut something and it cuts well!

Well I'd stick with my daily carry that I have right now of a mid sized(about 4" closed)one hand opening folder, and a gerber multi tool. I'd have to add a mid sized bowie in a swing sheath just because they're cool and on occasion I could use a big knife for utility. And just for kicks a nice automatic to use for a letter opener
