Hi all, im planning to go spend a few days in the forest with a friend this summer and I need a good knife, not a huge bowie-type knife, more like a ... let's call it a survival knife... :)
I've been looking around a lot and finding a not to expensive, sturdy, short bladed (between 9 and 12 cm), thick bladed knife isn't as easy as I thought it would...
Therefore, i'd like to mention the Linder Knife Shop (http://www.linder.de/en/welcome) where I have seen a few knives but i'd like a few recommendations
(knives listed below include knives not on this website)

Linder HD hunter (http://www.linder.de/en/artikel/Kni...Knives/Hunting_Knives/444711/Linder_HD_Hunter)
Opinel n°13 / n°12 (http://www.couteaux-clic.com/couteau-opinel-hetre-n-12-vri,fr,4,CC95212.cfm)
Linder Ranger 1
Linder Military knife
Kershaw Select Fire
Minibowie (Linder site)
Linder 4 in 1 (great idea but I need to know if its well built (no tang at all really so probably no good))
Winchester knife (http://www.couteaux-center.com/boutique/fiche_produit.cfm?ref=G1339&type=229&code_lg=lg_fr&num=1)
Gerber Bear Grylls knife (http://www.couteaux-center.com/boutique/fiche_produit.cfm?ref=G0752&type=294&code_lg=lg_fr&num=1)

I live in France so that is why the Linder site (or one of the french sites) are better because of cheaper delivery...

My budget (max ) may be a little low for what you guys call a "good" knife :p but I do not need an amazing steel or any (weird and useless :) ) gadgets, all i need is a (fixed/folding i dont care much) sturdy, stainless knife.

Thanks
Kind Regards, Tonylac

The Condor Lifeland Hunter fits your specs rather well. The blade is 11.5 cm. It might be a little thin though.

Most of the knives for your intended use are not stainless though.

For a few days in the woods, the Opinel ought to serve you very well at a very reasonable price. I'd say get the opinel, and start saving money for a really nice knife, such as Falkniven F1.

As it seems that this will be your first "survival"-trip in the woods, I'd recommend getting a good but affordable fixed blade knife like the Mora. The Mora 2000 for example or a classic model like the ones below. These have served me well for years and I bought them each for about 5 euros.

If you really like camping out in the woods and decide to get a more expensive knife, I'd recommend looking at the Fällkniven knives.

Thanks for all of your recommendations guys, the mora knives look really nice and they are cheap...I may get one mora knife and another one (either another mora or something like the kershaw or condor...) I'll keep you updated, and tell you my results ;)
Thanks again,
Tonylac...

My last post doesn't mean that this post is answered, if anyone has any further suggestion i'm glad to hear them ;)
