What knife should I buy?

Hey guys,

I have exactly $95.77 in my bank account right now and want to buy another knife. It has to be a folder. That's the only requirement. Flippers are acceptable as well but not required.

So what knife should I buy? In other words, if you had $95.77 to spend on a folder (including taxes, shipping etc.), what would it be?

Thanks,
Chris

What do you want to use the knife for? How big of a knife do you want? How heavy do you want it to be? What type of grind or blade shape are you looking for? Think about those things and you probably will narrow it down to a few that you can chose from on your own.

I'm really not looking for anything in particular, just a new folder to add to the family. If I had to pick an attribute I would say heavy duty use. So it really comes down to what folder for $95 would YOU buy?

I'm not a huge fan of ZT to be honest and it looks like all the sites are selling them in the ballpark of 120-140 bucks so I'm gonna have to pass on that one. Maybe price went up since you first bought yours?

Cold Steel Recon 1, AK-47 or Code 4. It'l be the last folder you ever need, and will in all likelihood outlive you and your children. All, with shipping, are within your price range, and if you want to save some bucks, you can get a Voyager instead. I have them all. I adore them all.

Want something a little more traditional? Check out the Mackinac Hunter and the Lone Star Hunter. I have the Mackinac and even with the leather sheath, it's well within your price range. I'm getting the Lone Star for my father. They're heavy, but they really grow on you. The Mackinac is a fierce rival to my Recon 1 for the title of my favorite folder.

I like it but I don't know how I feel about that Aus-8a steel..

Any other suggestions?

$95 big ones doesn’t give you the greatest of options.. I’d say, save you dough and pick something up later when you have done some research on what you might like.

My sugg: BM 530, or if you can find a deal that cheap, BM Grip

AUS8A does not excel at any one particular thing, but it is pretty much good at everything. It's an all-around good performance steel, a jack of all trades, if you will. I really like it, and it's been very good to me.

Actually, it does excel at one thing, it's super easy to get a really nice edge on it.

I'm gonna go against the grain, save your money. I'm sure a lot of people on here, myself included, have spent their bottom dollar on knives out of addiction rather than need/want. Save up some money, put necessities first and buy when you are up. If you buy a blade every time you get $100 you will never move up to the next price bracket. Save up another $100 and get something in the $150 range and save the other $50.

I just bought a $320 knife and a $190 knife a few weeks ago. I have "knife money" left over and decided I don't want to save it but rather buy a cheaper knife I'm not afraid to abuse.

That makes more sense. Maybe you can buy some courage and get over your fear of using your more costly blades.

But don't drive while feeling encouraged. Or use your knives.
