I am thinking about trading in some stuff to buy a new Kimber 1911 and was thinking that if i did, i would try and make a companion knife for it, for display purposes mainly. What style do you think best matches/compliments a 1911? I was thinking something fighter/bowie-ish, but a little more modern than a traditional bowie. This particular 1911 i am interested in has an odd grip and color combo, that could be matched to help the compliment, but overall style is still up in the air. Here is a link to a picture of it, if that helps.

That's a nice weapon-you're going to like that . As far as a companion Blade style, mainly for display and not personnel carry . Something like the recently posted "Titan by trisak" comes to mind,"a little large for concealed carry"But wow what an awesome blade.I like the style of blgoode's 6" Blk on Blk Combat too. Hey , you asked !

thanks for the suggestions, the Titan is pretty awesome, maybe a little too modern for a 1911, the 6" black on black combat is closer to what i was thinking,
now i just have to look into come duracoat or something to get a good color match and figure out a handle material,
do you think using the same material, from an extra set of grips, is trying to hard to match?

Buy an extra set of grips and make a full tang to match the profile of the grip. Insert a threaded nut in the tang somehow and screw em on. Just a thought...

i'd love to have the grips screwed on, that way if i ever change the grips on my 1911 i could change the knife also.

i wish i could afford two, i think i am trading in two walther p99s for it(and some other stuff), i hope it's worth it

then make a knife "around'em" guardless of course, with an "in the blank " finger guard on the bottom. Use an epoxy finish on the blade and then screw them on like the pistol's grips are done. Sound familiar? I saw just such some months back in either blade or knives illustrated (or tactical knives illustrated) and it was on the front cover if I recall, quite cool.... Of course, I'd go for a Randall "Airman" in five inch config. with sharpner sheath...
