What knife to add to my collection?

Hi all.

I am 17 and got interested in knives about 6 months ago. I have since accumulated a few quality folder. I was wondering, what reasonably (like $60 or less) priced folder would be a good addition to my collection? I enjoy spydercos but kershaws are much cheaper.

Here is my collection of nicer knives:

From left to right, top to bottom:
- Spyderco tenacious
- Kershaw blur (stonewashed with s30v steel)
- Spyderco delica 4
- Benchmade griptillian
- CRKT carson rescue knife
- ontario rat model 2
- spyderco byrd meadowlark
- kershaw leek

Opinel Mushroom Knife. You should add that. Quality folder and under $60. That's what I''d get.

Maybe another blade from the Spyderco budget line? The Resilience could make a nice addition and fill a nice spot in your collection (assuming your local laws will allow for a blade that long).

Cold Steel Large Voyager. Pick the blade shape you like the most. Makes for a tough, inexpensive beater with better-than-average cutting geometry.

Good collection, Armenate. You know how to pick good ones so I'm sure your next will be good too.

Might try an ESSE? Maybe a Zancudo or Avispa?

Utilitac and Opinel would be good too.

I would save up for a PM2. You can usually find a used one for around $100. Good luck with your search.

I agree you are off to a good start at that price range. You seem to have a pretty well rounded collection. I might look at a kershaw strobe (diskin design) or one of the kershaw/emerson collabs or even a cold steel ak47, lawman or recon.

You can get a Damascus Skyline from one of the paid dealers here (kershawguy.com) for $58.

Nice collection you have so far!

+1 on the Spyderco Dragonfly, my first thought also. British Racing Green!
The CRKT Graphite has a very distinctive design and is lots of fun to flip.
The Buck Lux Avid is bit of a different look and has Sandvik steel.
Maybe a Kizer Sunburst folder, love the look and they're well built.
Oodles of Kershaws to choose from, too...

Enjoy your search!

Is the zdp-189 steel on the racing green dragonfly similar to vg10. Like is it easy to sharpen or what? Why would it be better than vg10?

Much better wear resistance, stain resistance is worse, can be a PITA to sharpen and is an absolute bear to reprofile (makes my abrasive belts weep.)

Almost forgot, seems to do significantly better with more extreme edge angles than VG10 as well.

In my opinion you have a nice collection. There is a lot of folders we can recommend to you. Most of them cheaper than $60 (Buck, Kershaw, Gerber, CRKT, Schrade...). Some of them made in USA but many in China. You need a classic like Buck hunter or a Case (trapper, peanut, hunter). I wish you a good hunting.

funny you should say that. I just picked up a buck 110 today. Its the 50th anniversary one as well as being a boone and crocket exclusive

So if I were to get a sub $60 spyderco to add to my collection, which would be the best(I would rather not get one from the tenacious line)?

i would just stick with the delica4 at that point. unless you want the endura4. the delica 4 is actually one of my favorites to carry. or you could look at the salt series
