I have carried a rat1 for a long time it's been great! However it's time is about up because it's seen it's better days. So...

there is a gun and knife show coming up in my town. I'm looking for a strong knife, so I have cold steel in mind. I really want a tri ad lock I was thinking a recon 1 for edc.
In general I like a med- big knife for edc like 3-4 inches work good for me.
So my question is what knife do you all like that has a abnormally strong lock?? This doesn't necessarily have to be cold steel, but I prefer it be one in the tri ad line of knives.

IDK if they're abnormally strong but I really like the Spydercos caged ball bearing lock on the Manix 2, it has never let me down. That or you can try something from the Zero Tolerance line of knives my 0300 is a friggin tank.

I can vouch for the strength and durabilty of the lg Voyager. It is way overbuilt; more like a Craftsman wrench than a knife. If you are going to be abusive towards you knife it is a good choice. If you are looking for something a little more refined/asthetically pleasing and will not be abusing your knife too much, I would lean towards something a little nicer like a American Spyderco or Griptilian.

CS Voyager 2011, 2010 Recon 1, 2010 AK, 2010 Lawman.. these should all work well for you.. all between 3.5-4" in length, and feature the triad lock. I own them all and can vouch for them. Won't break the bank either, they all run 40-50 dollars

Thanks guys I may check out the tri ad voyager. I'm gonna try to talk them down on the price. I got a new leather man wave for 30 bucks!! New! He was wanting 60 but I kept talking so I'm hoping this method works again lol

I LOVE my Recon 1. I have an older style one. I have batoned one entire piece of firewood with it, but just finger or 2 sized pieces at a time. I did not care if i broke it. I have sooo many knives. It did loosen up badly. It did not fail. I thought it was junk, but brought it home & tightened everything up with those micro torx sets from HF. It now is good to go. No wiggle, no slop. I was impressed. Hope you like yours as well as i like mine.

I'm going I like it a lot too. The cheapest I could find it was 62$ and with shipping it came out to be 70$ and it was from Walmart.com lol...they carry a lot of good knives on their website just not in their stores

Anyone have both CS Recon 1 and Spyderco Manix 2? if so, is one easier to open than the other (one handed)?

It's not even close for me: the Manix 2 is MUCH easier to open one-handed. I don't even try with the Recon 1 anymore. The Tri-Ad lock is so stiff to open AND close (even after leaving half-open over several nights) that I fear for my fingers. Others with bigger hands may disagree, but I don't risk it.

I can open and close the recon 1 easily one handed, i could do it when it was brand new too but it hurt my thumb after pressing down on the lockbar a lot. I do agree that the manix is much easier than the recon 1.

Spyderco's compression lock is suppose to be strong. The Paramilitary 2 is a good option for that. If you want a strong but easy to carry knife, try out an izula or a smaller fixed blade.
