hey guys I recently made a thread on the general knife forum and have some success with it. But I was redirected into this forum, anyways my requirement for a knife would be something around 5-7 inches overall(or even more as long as its consealable), strong enough to but put under some chopping stress, and sharp enough to cut through alot of junk. My price range is around 100 but can go up to 150 or even a little more if its worth bang for the buck. I really appreciate you guys helping me. Oh yea this knife will be for my hiking, backpacking and everyday carry if possible. (it has to be fixed blade since I dislike folders)

One thing I also dont sugest is using this knife as an EDC, its kinda big, unless your in an area where this size would be the norm, I dont think its a good idea.

forgive my newbness but what is an edc? everyday carrier?

and the scrapper 4 seems nice but is the only way to order one on the website? because when i checked place order its only the scrapper 6

pretty good, but If you want a "one to do it all" knife, something a little bigger might be in order. The RAT7, BK7 if you can find one. CS recon tanto and RD7 are some good places to start. Look at and reviews and search the up here and on google for some more information.

get a fixed blade for outdoors stuff , and a spyderco or benchmade for EDC . as for the fixed blade , i reccomend the sog knives saal 2000 or seal pup . buit then again i am getting my first busse soon....... Chris reeve knives are very good too , but probably out of your price range. i like the ontario RAT series , but i haven`t bought one yet , so i can`t comment on those

Want bang for the buck? Get a Camillius GI Pilot's Knife. A beefy knife, with a five inch blade that's made for heavy duty use. You should be able to pick one up for $40. Good carbon steel, holds an edge pretty good and sharpens easily. Not a pretty knife, by any stretch of the imagination, but a good, solid knife that you won't weep over if you scratch it or ding it. I've still got the one a pilot gave me in 1969. It's the emergency knife in the glove box of my '64 Chevy pickup.

An even better bang is one of the Mora's. Eriksson is a good brand. You can get 'em for about $10 or so. Not as heavy duty as the Pilot's Knife, but a good sharp knife that's light and handy.

Use the money you save to get other stuff for your "kit".

With 5-7" overall length, you looking at 3-4" blade. If you increased your overall length limitation a little, there's tons of great blades with 3.5-4" that would fit your budget and still provide excellent quality.

Fallkniven F1
Bark River
Benchmade (Nimravus)
Grohmann
AG Russell (Deerhunter)
Mora 2000

There area plenty of others in this category and you'll get a lot of recommendations, but most will require a decent kydex sheath that can be carried closer to the body or even with an IWB attachment.
