What knife to get for my new son?

Sean was born yesterday. Doing great, but I am wondering what to get him for a "diaper knife?" My daughter was given a Spyderco pink Delica when she was born. So in the spirit of "what would you carry if you were in pampers...."

Rest assured, I have several "blackguns" and knives salted away for the kids.

Congrats on the new SON!

Knife?

Something traditional would be nice, along the lines of the WhiteWing double bladed stag folder, something that would fit in with the Scouts if he joins them later on.

I have three daughters, no sons....

but they are good girls....but my collection will probably be put out in a yard sale when I go, so keep your ears and eyes peeled!!!

It's probably to late, but I'll suggest it for the benefit of other soon-to-be-fathers who might be reading. If your son grows up to be a knife collector, the ultimate knife to have in his collection would be the scalpel used to cut his cord. If you ask the doctor carefully and nicely, my guess is that they'll disinfect it and save it for you. Those things are all disposable these days, so there's no cost. They just need to wash it in some alcohol and wrap it up for you.

It's too bad that diapers don't have belts as I would've suggested a sheath from Gary as well.

Gollnick,
Now that's a interesting suggestion!! One that I'll keep in mind for (hopefully) the future.
Gee, I wonder if they'll let you use your own knife for this procedure?? Maybe an even better idea!?!?!?

Since your daughter got a pink Delica, it's only fitting that your son gets a blue one.

I brought a Sebenza along to the OR, but they wanted me to use sissors. I asked about the Sebbie, the Doc, a nice guy and a shooter, wanted to trade me out of the Sebbie.

Congratulations John. My son just turned 2 and he already knows how to open a knife

On the knife I would suggest something that may be handed down to his son one day. My son currently has about 50 knives to look forward to using/collecting when he gets a little older. Just about an hour ago he drug the knife roll out of the closet and said ,"look at knifes". His eyes light up about as much as mine when I pull the roll out. My wife has even started to take time to look at my knives lately. Last night she was looking through mine and telling me which ones I couldn't sell. I gave her a pink Delica for our 6th anniversary last weekend and she was happy. She now has a pink Ladybug on her keychain, a Cricket in her sewing kit, and the Delica in her pocketbook. Knife collecting is so fun when the whole family is involved

Congratulations, and thanks for adding a new knife nut.

I would go with a Busse BM. Just tape it onto his diaper. He will be lounging for a while anyway, so the extra weight isn't going to be a problem.

CopFish!

Congratulations!

I asked my wife about the possibility of bringing my own knife...(yes, she too is going the family way...) and she thought they wouldn't let me bring my own knife...

I will have to check this - don't think they can resist me - not when I am holding my new 8" Hossom...

On the other hand - taking their scalpel is also a novel idea...

In any case- I hope all is well with the young one and with the mother..

While a nice suggestion, scalpels are seldom used to cut the cord. Believe it or not, MAYO scissors were what I used. Made in England and not Hawaii though

Congratulations on your new progeny! Continuation of the line and all that, can't be overlooked for genuine sentiment.

Was wondering, while I know nothing about them other than the picture, what about a Junglee Baby Hattori Fighter for the baby?

. My son, Lachlan was born just over a week ago on 20th April. I already have two daughters and would have been happy to have a third but it is great to have a son.

I'm going to buy him a stainless Spyderco Dragonfly and have it engraved with his name and birth date. I figure it will be a nice size for him as he grows up and he may like to carry it as a dress knife when he's older.

Take care,
