What Knife to get my wife?

Hello Everyone,

I am thinking of getting my wife a knife to carry in her vehicle, she already carries pepper spray I just want her to have a good knife just incase she ever has to cut anything. The knives that I am considering are the Spyderco Native, and the Endura. I only own one Spyderco it's a Jess Horn with a zdp-189 blade. My wife is a really girly girl I originally purchased the Jess Horn for her and she did not want to carry it. Her excuse was that I always carry at least 2 knives on me and she doesn't want to make her purse any heavier.
Like I said earlier the knife would only be carried in her emergency bag that she has in her vehicle so it's only in there for emergencies so any suggestions would be helpful. If you can think of any other knives that might be good please let me know, she can not carry a fixed blade that would be considered a felony. Thank you in advance. Semper Fi

@Klok Both of those are fixed blades and no-go for legal reasons.

I would suggest the new Dragonfly 2. I don't own one yet but most people seem pleased with the ergonomics and cutting ability of the original. Also it's 1.2 oz so she might actually start carrying it.
Either that or one of the Salt folders. It won't rust so you don't need to worry about what may happen to it just sitting in a glove box.

Pink or purple Delica would work because they're light and handy. If it's just going to stay in a bag maybe a Tenacious or Persistence. The Dragonfly would also work but a little more cutting edge might be nice in a pinch.

Having said that, I just got some friends purple Ladybugs for Christmas because they won't carry clip knives but they will carry a little Ladybug in a pocket.
But I wouldn't consider a Ladybug a car emergency bag knife.

Offhand, A FFG Delica in some color she may like (purple, green, etc). Maybe plain edge.

I second the Dragonfly; the tatto version may be for her.

Unless she has large hands. I would think she'd prefer the Delica over the Endura. My wife loves her delica and usually throws it in her purse when it's not clipped to her pocket.

My GF, Amy has a handful of nice knives from me (Caly 3 ZDP, Orange Urban Wharnie, Mini-Cyclone, Pacific Salt 1) but I recently got her a Pink Native S30V from Cutlery Shoppe.

It's now her favorite knife by far now, so much so she even took some Hipstamatic pictures on her iPhone and posted them to Instagram ;)

I'm gonna have to agree with the others and say some version of the Delica. It's simple, lightweight and does what its intended to do. Plus if shes not gonna carry it it wont break the bank. However if you get it in a color she likes (say pink or purple) she might EDC it because she might think its cute.

Second or third picks would have to be the Dragonfly or Ladybug.

I would suggest a Delica 4 ffg or Dragonfly - both small and light weight. I got my wife a Delica 4 ffg and ladybug 3 for xmas.

FFG Delica or Purple Ladybug maybe. However, I think you should really make sure that she actually is interested before you buy it. She kinda already gave you a hint that she might not care so much for it when she said that she didn't want to make her purse heavy. Buying your GF a knife for a gift may seem like a cool thing, but the truth is most girls really aren't that interested in knives.

It's too bad everybody can't be like Angelina Jolie :).

i wanted to get a knife for my wife also, and she decided she liked the ladybug salt the most. its low maintenance, and small in size and weight.

If it is for her emergency bag ie she won't be carrying it around with her get her a good fixed blade like a pink ESEE Izula its small but can handle tasks 10 times its size (just go over the ESEE page here on BF and you'll see what I mean. ESEEs also has a life time warranty. So, if she breaks it doing something she shouldn't be doing with a knife, ESEE will replace it.

and in an emergency situation I would rather have a good fixed blade than a folder.

Whenever I hear this question, I almost always think "Spyderco Cricket". Plenty of cutting power, cutesy design women seem to like, small, etc. It's a good wife-knife. :)

Easy to open is important to my wife as she hates it when she breaks a nail. The Kershaw Chive is perfect for her purse.

Just in the car or pocket carry as well?
My wife often carries a Benchmade 707 (about the size of a Delica), but I gave her a Spyderco Lava as well, because some women's jeans have pockets so tiny they must have been added as an after-thought.
The Lava is also "cute".:)

My lady carries a pink delica, ocelot or foliage green rookie depending on her mood and finds all of them to be of good size and weight even with her small hands.

My wife is perfectly happy with her assisted opening pink Kershaw Chive.

We discussed a Ladybug or Dragonfly but says she's good to go. Unlike me, she's ok with just ONE knife.

:D
