What knife was dethroned (as your primary EDC) by an XM?

My story goes like so...

Early in life, I had a Spyderco Endura Clipit with the plastic clip integrated into the handle. Loved it, kept it in my back pocket, after one night of bar hopping, it was lost. Sinking feeling, I had the knife for several years. The only models offered to replace it at that time had a metal clip fastened to the zytle handle, tried one of these and broke the zytel where the clip attached in very short time, clip would spin...frustrating.

Then a Benchmade 1st production Auto mini Stryker. Was my primary for many years till I lost it in the wilderness of VA.

I then went on a multiple-year trial-and-error process using several knives. A Strider, CRK, ETC had me mostly content, but I was on a quest for something a little different. I tried a ton of other knives but decided to go big or go home that's why I own higher-end production knives.

I found the Hinderers, and now that's it.

So what did your XM replace?

In all honesty, my first XM was scored at Blade 2011. On that day, at that time, while I had several knives in my pockets, the one I had in primary position that day was the Ontario Rat 1 folder. But my primary EDC at that time was a newer Benchmade auto mini Stryker. I still miss my first production run.

CRK Sebenza and an SnG, now they just sit on my desk lol

I hope you mean locked inside your desk.

I squirrel away my stuff as not to attract unwanted attention. Even while at home, never know who may randomly come to visit.

Large Sebenza 21 was replaced by a 3" slicer flipper. I still have an Endura Clip-it from 1996 that I keep in my Bug-Out bag. I feel your pain!

I love stories that start with "My story goes..." or "Once upon a time" that's good too.....
For me, been a long road to Hinderer. (Ooh! like that one too)
My love of knives started with sticks (sharp ones) even as a very young boy I saw the value of having a sturdy sharp stick along for the walk in the woods of N/E Pa.
Bears, Mountain Lion, Rattle Snakes, Mice .....
Make the stick long enough as to NOT poke your eye out if one tripped, that was good info to have.
My first Bad experience with a "knife" was a bad selection of "skipping stone" at rivers edge, that mistake took some time to heal. Where was my local cave man when I needed that grunt and a head nod in the direction of "No".
My first "real" knife ..... now that was a story!
Both Mom AND Dad said "No" to that little disertation. Probably went something like..... "Um, ahhh.....um Mom, uh I was thinking. I'm all growed up now and Um'
"No"
Mom could always see where I was going before I got there. Dad just said "No" before my engine got revved up. At least Mom let me present.
So...... what did "little scottie" do? I saved up and went to my local Hardware store (Not HomeDepot) it was the hardware store/general store/penny candy store and mailman.
I think he was Sheriff and Constable too.
I bought my first knife! Slip Joint $1.75 a princely sum as I can remember. I was In Love!
Didn't take long for my wheels to get turning though and the guilt was not far behind.
How was I going to court my new found love (forbidden love) in public? IF the "Mom" (or Dad) saw my prized possession the jig would be up and so would I because sitting down would be a distant memory.
I hatched my plan and that night while saying good night to Dad who was deep in his book, I said, "Oh ....look what I found! a Christmas Present from Uncle Eddie that I forgot to open!" and then I stopped breathing and waited to see if this scheme was gonna work. One raised eye brow and I knew I was about to be right about one thing.....
Sitting down was indeed going to become a distant memory.
Dad ended up with my knife and I learned a couple important lessons that fated evening.
- Don't Lie to Dad (or Mom)
- Mom and Dad were a lot smarter than I gave them credit for.
- I was going to have a life long Love of Knives (and as it turns out, a couple other things as well) just not for awhile.
- Most of ALL, I wish I had Mom and Dad ..... and a little $1.75 knife back if even for just one Summer Day.

BTW- My XM dethroned my Acies, nice knife but like Dan Quayle was no John Kennedy - the Acies is no XM.

Nice story, Rubi.

I guess we could start from knife one, but my story above started far from knife number one.

Thinking back, my first knife was likely a Kershaw off the Snap-On truck sometime in the late 80's. Even though my father did not need the majority of the tools on the truck to do his office job, he was / is fond of tools and tasks that required them. So, occasionally, tools would be gifted to me as a kid. Very glad about this, as it was likely the genesis of my knife hobby.

My Benchmade 710 has never seen the light of day since I scored my first XM-18 flipper. I still flick it open once in awhile.

The only knife I rotate my XM's with is a large Sebenza micarta inlay which is also well built but lighter and more acceptable for Church, family gatherings etc.

In some social or formal settings a more "gentleman's" type folder may be appropriate as a primary. But I still carry an XM in another pocket.

XM's basically replaced my whole knife collection, among them were many Spyderco, Benchmade, Kershaw, a Strider, 2 CRK's, 2 Microtech's, a RJ Martin, a Terzuola and many others knives :)

I only keep a Spyderco Military a Kershaw Speedform 3500 and a ZT 0560 around.

But I don't miss any of them, and I have already a new XM on route to join these guys

Emel, this is a nice quality image of some beautiful examples of XMs. Nice!

And congrats in the inbound (whatever version it may be).

For me, my 24 got relocated by a Gen 4 3.5 Spanto Flipper, but it's not out of EDC, just out of primary position.

I went to Blade 2012 with a OD green scale/black bladed Ontario Rat 1 clipped to my pocket. I returned from Blade 2012 with a Gen 4 XM-18 3.5". I have carried the XM everyday since except for a week and a half that I carried a ZT 0560.
