Well I've cleaned and organized my tackle box probably three times in anticipation of this season's fishing. FINALLY we are getting some decent weather here in Minnesota so it's time to go fishing!
I was taken with these Schrade Walden 65th anniversary knives. Basically a fish knife but on a trapper frame with a long thin clip blade and a secondary scaler/hook remover/beer bottle popper. I have to say I am scratching my head at the "scaler". Its a double toothed saw that would shred any fish if used for scalling so I question that choice. Charlie (waynorth) has an original in great condition and it has the same saw. Anyway I always fillet out a fish so I don't use scalers but it is unique. But I really think the fish shield is the icing on the cake.

What knives are you bringing with to the ocean, the river, the lake, the pond? It doesn't have to be a fish oriented knife but it don't hurt. ;)

Just purchased a NOS Western Model 766 filet knife and plan to use it this summer. Sorry, no pics yet.

Yesterday I took a trusty ole Case Trapper, and a Queen Canoe with me fishing. That trapper came in handy cutting up bait, and the Queen was used for line trimming.

I love the pic of your fishing knives. I've alway's wanted a fishing knife similar to those. But, I still don't have one. One of these day's I'm going to have to find one and purchase it. They would sure come in handy.

We've had allott of rain this spring too. It's time to hit the trout streams now though! I'll be carrying this little Bird & Trout that Lamont Coombs made. Now if the trout will cooperate ....

Last summer, out of curiosity I used a Vic Farmer saw to scale come Crappie. It actually works pretty well. Even front to back it grabs the scales and removes them. The only problem I found was that, with softer scales like Crappie and Bluegill, the saw teeth will poke through them and they'll stack up on the edge rendering it useless. Imagine a leaf rake plugged up with leaves. A quick wipe and you're back to work.

My knives this year? Same as last year:

Whichever knife I didn't drop in the lake last fall. So I'll probably start with this one. I'm partial to this pair

I know this is traditional knives page and I'm not 100% sure what one is but I love fishing so I'll post the list and see if i have pictures to add.

Always with me is the TL-29 it was my grandpas and I dont use it as much as I carry it for sentimental value. (Did cause the only knife related stitches I've ever had though)

Mike Irie Custom Fixed Blade (More tactical than traditional)

Custom Fillet knife made by myself with my Girlfriends uncle whos a hobbyist knifemaker.

I generally only have a SAK or a Trapper pattern slippie with me fishing along a stream or river. I throw just about everything back, so I don't do much scaling.

Nice pick, especially the little yeller one!

That's what I'm taking out with me.

Carl.

cnas122, I really like that old butcher knife with the poured pewter bolster! As for me, I will carry my Case #6318 red bone Pocketworn medium stockman, my #63032 medium stockman, or my "yeller" handled Case Peanut.

The same ones I took last year.

In fact, all these went with me and covered everything I needed a knife for.

Some sweet little rainbows there!

Here's another that makes its way into the tackle box. Remington Navigator with a better scaler than those Schrade Waldens.

This one goes along also in case I catch something that needs to be fileted. It does an outstanding job as you can see. ;)
