What knives are you giving this Christmas?

To dovetail somewhat with the thread about what knives are on your Christmas list to receive, I was wondering what knives folks may be giving as gifts this year.

I had not initially planned on giving any knives since there isn't really anyone else in my family these days who has the same interest in them as I do, and some of the younger relatives aren't old enough for a "first knife" yet. However, an opportunity presented itself and I decided to go the knife route.

For the family that gets together at Christmas day dinner, the gift giving is divided into Secret Santa and a Yankee Swap. The price cap for the swap is $20. I try to put some effort and imagination into this and not go with things like generic gift cards or lottery tickets, but it helps if it's something that anyone could use since we have a wide age range.

I have a Vic Cadet on my keyring, along with a small AAA flashlight and a paracord fob of some type. I thought it would be a neat idea to put together a knife/light/fob combo on a split ring and have the swap gift be a ready to go keychain. I found a Vic Classic for $10 and a Fenix E01 light for the same. Both are small, simple, reliable, and useful. I made a small paracord fob and topped it with a square glass bead.

I'm hoping it will find a good home with someone via the swap but if I end up getting it back myself, well, I can live with that. ;)

Anyone else giving a knife at Christmas?

I am giving a NIB Case model #3318 Stockman in Yellar scales to Bruce Culberson via this recent give-a-way contest right in here in the spirit of Christmas..

I am also giving away a Stockman and a nice vintage Kabar sheath knife to several more great folks here locally whom I hunt, fish, frog gig, camp, hike and generally hang out with out of doors.

I'm making some kitchen knives for family and friends, and I'm making a small fixed blade for my sister's boyfriend. I'm refurbishing a big Victorionox butcher knife for my mom, and I'm going to make a nice box for it. (She wanted me to fix the handle on it years ago, and I'm finally getting to it!). Dad's going to get the newer Western folding hunter I posted in the folding hunters thread.- - Actually he's going to get his old one back, too, because I'm going to make a nick-nack/display box that incorporates both of them.

None this year. A couple of years ago I found a great deal on the Vic Alox classic for $8 each and bought a bunch in all different colors to give as Christmas gifts. I still see family members with them on their keychain (some color worn off).

Several years ago one of my neighbors gave away Cadets to several of the guys in the neighborhood, it was what started me carrying a knife on a regular basis. Cool gift.

although it will likely be a little after the holidays, it'll be worth it though i think my dad will love it!

Just gave a couple of small knives to my wife's cousins kids. Little guy of seven came and sat on the couch besides me while I was checking out today's mail. My Schrade Kious arrived and he says "wow, that is a nice pocketknife, I need one of those" and his mom said "one more thing for the Christmas list" So we went for a little walk and I picked out a little Steel Warrior lockback for him, much like what my uncle gave me when I was seven.
Little while later my wife tells me him and his sister (9) want to see my collection(s) So I gave them the tour and they thought the modern knives were o.k., but the traditionals had their attention. The girl was most fascinated with a Northwoods gunstock in stag, the boy just liked everything. Ended up giving her a little Vic classic. They'll put them to good use as they live in the wilds. A small island in northern Manitoba, ferry quits running this weekend and its snow roads til April. Gorgeous area.
Last thing, the little guy sitting looking at all the knives and he says "I think I just might have to start collectin' knives" I am such a good influence.
