I don't know what to recommend because I am not familiar with what it is you like in knives. There are some good to very godd knives made in Germany by companies like: Bulldog Brand, Linder, J.A. Henckels (not just kitchen knives), Herbertz and a few others.

a few suggestions from a german knife-addict: Boker makes some very good integral hunting knives, 440C Steel and amboina wood handles, almost knifemaker-like, fair priced. Puma is well recommended for their traditional hunting knives (expensive, unfortunately), but avoid their "tactical" stuff. Linder has propably the best relation price-value. Their "Super-Edge"-line, made of ATS-34, is similar to the swedish fallknivens for half the price. And my no.1 personal advice: Klotzli from Switzerland: Excellent!! It's not too far from Germany to Switzerland once Your friend is over here...

hmmm...where to start???? When I was stationed (while in the AF) at rheinmain ab back in the late 80s I bought many a knife!!!!:D German cutlery these days, much of it isnt what it use to be, but you can get some great knives over there. I use to buy linder nicker knives, boker sidelock switchblades. hubertus nicker, and military knives. hirschkrone nicker knives. henckels pocket knives. herbertz hunting knives.

I believe the average price I paid for a NICE switchblade was about 90 marks at the time (about 60 dollars or so, considering the mark rate at the time). One of my favorites was a boker sidelock with re bone handles, I dont have the knife anymore.....makes my eyes tear up!

I lived in wiesbaden and use to walk to the henckels store three blocks from where I use to live. You can find good cutlery at the henckels over there, or in many drug stores. the only place I use to shy away from was some of the malls over there had some high prices.

hope this helps some, if you want specifics, email me!!!:)

hey guys,

Thanks for the response and information. This will be helpful. I usually favor the fixed blade full tang utility to large utility type of knives, and should have included that in the original post, but would also be interested in a quality edc folder of some type. Again, I appreciate you all giving the brand and type of info that you did and will forward this to my friend in Germany.

Phil
