The lost and found thread had me thinking about all the knives I've owned and what has happened to most of them. After a few minutes of thought I realized that most of the knives I no longer possess I simply gave away to a deserving party. Here's my list; what's yours?
Given Away (including gifts.)
-Husky folding utility knife; given as a small present to a carpenter friend of mine after he remarked how useful it looked. I gave it away mainly because it was not lefty-friendly
-Small CRKT Crawford/Kasper Fighting Folder with the aluminum handles. I really really liked the handle and the blade of this knife but the lack of a reversible pocket clip led me to give it away to my neighbor. He uses it a lot; being a county bumpkin of sorts he spends more time cutting things than pretty much about anything else. He thought the LAWKS was the greatest thing since indoor plumbing.
-Spyderco Rescue 93mm Blue; a gift to my Sous Chef for his birthday. This knife finally made him understand what I meant when I spoke about ergonomics in a pocket knife. I think he lost it though; but that is okay becase this year he received a (see next...)
-Spyderco Native Black; the next gift for my Sous Chef. Apparently the three of us in the kitchen have a weird birthday ritual. Every January when the new catalogs come in we pass them around and the Executive Chef and Sous Chef pick a pocket knife while I pick a new Chef Knife. We only talk about it one day and then when whoever's birthday rolls around they get the item they picked without anybody mentioning it again. Been going for two years running now.
-Spyderco Delica 4 Foliage Green; replacement gift to my Executive Chef since he has been carrying one of those Eagle Industries knock-offs since he got out of the Marine Corps and needed a "real" knife.
-Buck X-tract; this one went to my little sister. I figure it will be handy around her dorms.
-Spyderco Delica 4 X 2; I gave one each to both my older brothers for their birthdays last year.
-Spyderco Native S30V; given to my Oldest brother almost 3 years ago as a work knife. He has run it hard and had the chipping to prove it, but he loves the size and the grind of the knife.
-CRKT Lightfoot M1-03K; replacement for the above Native. I wanted to get something a little different this year and I thought the flipper would set this knife apart.
-AG Russell fruit tester knife; gift to my father as a replacement for his well-worn Schrade Fruit Tester knife. He has been carrying the same model Schrade for almost 40 years! He bought a case of 24 in the early 70s and has gone through about half; using and sharpening them so much they retired ones look like toothpicks.
Benchmade Pika; Sent this one off to my younger brother when he entered highschool as his field knife during his weekend hikes.
*EDIT: -Wusthof Pro Grip Santoku; given to my mother this year for Christmas to replace her ancient Victorinox Classic Chef Knife. She loves the Graton edge and the wide blade.
Received
-Wenger EVO Swiss Army Knife; a Christmas gift. Really was the only good one I got that year. (Boo socks.)
-Victorinox Swiss Rescue; Birthday present this year. I think this is really an awesome piece of gear and I wanted it mainly for the cool factor. Have yet to use it
-CRKT KISS; given to me by my brother when I entered high school. I used it as a money clip for years until I lost it.
-Gerber MP600; my Mother found it at the junkyard whilst taking pictures for insurance reasons. I EDC it to work everyday, I like it.
-Gerber Scout; best friend won this one at cards and gave it to me as a going away present before I left for university.
-Leatherman Wave (broken); given to me by a co-worker who didn't know about Leatherman's warranty. I didn't either for a few years but finally sent it in a received a new one.
-Well-used Benchmade 750 Pinnacle; the "Benchmade Sebenza." The previous owner flicked this knife open quite a bit and it shows. Lock engagement is 100% worn through and there is tons of bladeplay. Not quite sure what to do with this one but still appreciate the thought.
-My Grandfather's Ulster Boy Scout Knife; This is my favorite one. My Grandfather gave me a "permanent loan" of this knife for exploring anytime, anywhere after he noticed all the time I spent wandering about the woods behind his home.
That's all I can think of right now, I will update if anything else occurs to me.
Upon reflection of my list is anyone else a crazy person who gives away knives like candy?
