What knives should we have in our Collection of the knives sold by Schrade.
List your top six prized knives, you have or would like in your Schrade collection?
After the close-down, I spent most of my time looking for the knives sold from 2000 to 2004... Ken

This smacks of the hated multiple choice test. However, my personal picks, based first on beauty, second on function, and only thirdly on rarity, although I do recognize that parameter (lol): first run bone 8 OT, 2 OT, first run 165 OT, first run 165 UH, pre-1973 bone 804, serialized D'Holder collaboration fixed blades, and, last, but CERTAINLY not least is ANY pre-1947 Schrade in excellent condition. That makes my six, if you pardon some (very) creative math.

I collect the Old Timer knives almost exclusively among Schrades. So naturally I'd like to have one of each, of every model and every variation.

Here are six specific models or groups that I'd love to get my grubby hands on:
1) bone handled 2OT
2) 41OT
3) Any of the MM (Master Mechanic) models
4) An original boot dagger. Very few were made as prototypes only.
5) Still lacking some of the "Old Crafty" models
6) Non-knife items, like the Old Timer compass and thermos

Six individual knives and sets that should be among the goals of any Old Timer collector:
1) bone 2OT
2) Boot dagger
3) complete Prince Albert set
4) Silver anniversary knife with box
5) Grand Dad's Old Timer, complete set
6) 1985 Anniversary set
6-1/2) Old Timer Classics, complete set with matching serial #s

G'day, I certainly can't speak for what other Schrade collectors should have in their Schrade collections as Schrade made knives which appealed to so many different knife tastes/uses.
I am happy with some of my rather unique Schrades for different reasons and they also are a snapshot of Schrade diversification, so from my own collection, the Schrade knives that can still make me firm up......

I won't speak for anyone else, but I like the old slip joints, production variety, bone stag. I guess these are my all star teams, although I have a nice group of the small Schrade Walden's in the tubes I really like too. Also like Schrade Walden Uncle Henry knives in the hinged boxes. Always on the hunt.

I have always been partial to the 3rd generation series, the 123/124, the little SS30 for work, LB4, LB5 and for a fixed blade the 41OT.
Tough to stop at 6 :D

I have always liked the 125OT 25OT folding hunters. I have several of the 80T models including a prized bone handle model in original box. Another pattern is the 171UH hunter, with a giant single blade. Many others including early bone Schrade Cut Co's and Walden models.

Hi Russell, do you have time to post the 8OT with the Bone hanlle. My collection is mainly from 1970-2004. I would like an early bone 8OT... Ken

Ken, here is the picture of my bone handled 8OT as requested. As you can see it is not perfect, but unused.

Thank You Russell, I have some of those old 8OT knives made pre 1973. However, I have never seen one with the bone handles.
I have some of the later 8OT knives with red bone, blue bone and even a 2004 blue rope-cut bone, nothing like that one you have.

Just bringing up the photo of Rusty's superb example of sawcut bone 8OT. His 8OT sawcuts are identical to mine, and in the same direction plus his has the identical extended swedge to within 3 matchstrikes......genuine early <1959+> bone 8OT...
The reason I bring this photo up is I have seen it stated on another Schrade discussion elsewhere that the bone 8OT's are always smooth <like the 2OT and 3OT> & not sawcut....both Rusty's example and mine would indicate there were indeed sawcut bone 8OT's issued, and should be looked for if seeing poor photos on Ebay ....always look for 17 matchstrikes, the ultra long back swedge and both versions of bone handles I would suggest....Hoo Roo

For me an 8OT. My father had a country store when I was growing up and sold Scrades off a card. He gave me an 8OT unfortunately since was very young it was lost in time. I now have two 8OT"S.
