so i was looking at crawford neckers and saw a picture of a legionnaire being held by a contractor in iraq. the knife did not interest me nearly as much as what was tied to it. sorry that i cannot post pictures but here's the link. http://www.crawfordknives.com/neck_knives.htm does anyone what kind of lanyard is in the top right picture and how it is tied? it looks great, but after staring at it for quite a while, i still cannot identify it.

thanks for the help.

That might be the Iranian Yzeltgaj Goatdong Knot. The only problem with that knot is that once you learn the intricaties of tying it, you must be killed so that the knowledge does not fall in to the wrong hands!

I really have no idea what it is but good to see another NC boy here. I think I may have asked this before but I'll ask again. What part of western NC are you in?

yeah, the picture was knot really clear enough for me either. thanks esav, i'll try those links. i do knot recall ever seeing anything like it, therefore i want to learn it.

artsig1, i'm currently living in the metropolis that is bryson city.

I can't tell for sure from the picture, but I believe that it's a double figure 8 knot. Basically a figure 8 knot with two strands instead of one. If you can't find this knot, just ask a climber. The figure 8 knot is one of the most, if not the most used knot by climbers. :)

I spent some time up in Bryson City a few summers ago. Ever go biking at Tsali?

wunderbar, after your suggestion, i tied several figure 8's and variations thereof, and cannot get the same look. not convinced that it is the same thing, but willing to keep trying. am certainly finding some neat, new ideas though.

carthage,
sure i've ridden at tsali. at one time raced and ran mountain bike programs, now seem to be heavier and slower, so i became race director for most of the events out there. more stress and about the same amount of sweat, maybe i should go back to racing so that i can have fun again.

any other ideas on the knots folks?
