Does anyone know what legnth khukri the legendary Gurkhas used when they were fighting the Anglo wars or WW1 and WW2?

this is just a rough guess...... but im thinking 15-17" :confused:
from my understanding they used whatever they were comfortable with... :D
im curious as well :)

As far as I know what Jai said is correct. There where military issued kukris, but also a lot of the gurkhas used kukris from local kamis. I am sure there was quite a range in what they used, but something around 15-18" was probably the norm.

no, no no, that's all wrong.
REAL ghurkas use the 40" ang khola.
Dave Rishar has one. He'll show it to ya if you ask nicely.

It varied a lot in the Anglo war some had up to 2ft blades. {admitadly very rare. & probably just owned by the very rich?}

fat c.16 inch blades were very common then & slender ones from about 13 inch upwards to around 18 inch were common at that time.{actualy that range probably covers most of the fat blades as well.}

In WW1 & WW2 12 inch to 14 inch was usualy issued but as others have said they carried whatever they wanted in the field. { And officers nearly always bought there own.}

Heres an article about the military issue 20th centry ones. On IKRHS forum,

I did post it on this forum as well but I cant find it with the search function?

So I Hope thats OK Nasty? please delete if not.

In Nepal the odd inch or so doesnt seem to bother them much, as they say, "its still a kukri"

The weight & balance point are also very important in how a kukri feels & works as factors in with the blade length.

An excellent article...far too good to not have a link here somewhere.

It stays unless I am overruled.

A "must read" for anyone with an interest in historical kukris - and still available right here on BladeForums, as well.:thumbup:

Thanks Nasty, Berk, The search function doesnrt seem to work for me at momment.

4 days? Not for any normal kukri.
