yes a mysterious thread title I agree. That's because I'm not sure to which sub forum it belongs. I usually hang out over in the trad forum but I don't think it really belongs there .Bernards maybe?
Maintainance? Look -end of the day it's kitchen knife so I'll put it here to start with
anyway..
I'm trying to ascertain the wood used on the handle. This knife belongs to my Mum and was given to her by my Grandmother (dads side)as a wedding gift .
She asked if I would put a new handle on it.
It has been in the family since before I was born and I recently hit 50.
I gave it a bit of a spa and cleaned off approximately 50 years and 7months worth of accumulated ingrained gunk with three grades of sand paper and some 000steel wool.
A slurp of fine buffing oil, bit of a polish and voila.Good as new.Took about an hour.
Due to its age you can just make out 'MADE IN SHEFFIELD ENGLAND" AND "HOLLOW GROUND" etched on the blade -the letters almost look as if they are tattooed on.Like dots.
I think it's a run of the mill knife nothing special other than the family value it holds.
If anyone can help with info that would be great. hmm maybe I should put it in maintenance. I'm sure someone knows
cheers.
