What lube for your Emerson?

I just took down my CQC-8, cleaned out the factory crud, and lubed it up with some Break-Free CLP. Now the detent on the liner lock is rubbing against the blade and squeaking and no level of oil will stop it. What should I use? Some type of grease instead, maybe?

Not sure if it's the "right" lubricant to use but mine are super slick from using Valvoline bearing grease. I just put a few dots on either side of the teflon washers and it's a whole different knife. Have used this with almost every folder I've taken apart and has been consistent without any issues.

I also use it when building AR's and working on my motorcycle so it's multi-purpose!

Might be worth a shot. On another note, should the grease be only on the washers or where the detent contacts as well? Should the detent be dry or lubed to keep it from squeaking?

Just ran to Wal Mart and got some and did it up. Much smoother for sure! Still making that squeaky sound! Anybody got a suggestion?

I have used 3in1 Small Motor Oil with great results it also freshens up that newly sanded G10.

I threw out ll of my gun oils and solvents. I now use nothing but Cleanzoil.

I run my knives dry, Nylatron (the material the washers are made from) is said to not require lubrication.

I've been tinkering with different amounts of lubrication over and over again since last night. Too much, it gets on the lock and causes it to slip. None, it's not quite as smooth as I like. Just barely any coated in the washers of that all purpose grease and it's smooth as all get out and hasn't gotten all over the knife at all so far. Still a bit of squeak. I'm thinking that's just because of the stonewash against the ball of the detent on the liner. I know it's the liner for sure because if I hold it all the way over and move the blade it stops. I'm guessing that over time while the knife breaks in the ball and the blade will polish each other up and the squeak will stop. Time will tell!

The squeaking sound may be coming from the ball bearing detent. You'll need to lube that to get rid of the sound. But it always comes back in awhile.

WD-40 as a cleaner for any crud.

And classic remoil always seems to work for me.

That being said Froglube is kickass too but much more expensive.

Usually i clean it off the pivot and washers with WD-40, wipe it down thoroughly, and use a drop of Ballistol on the pivot and detent, leaving the nylatron washers dry.

On other folders, depending on the type of washer, I'll use a tiny bit of marine lube or tuf-glide. Pivots always get Ballistol though, and some blades get wiped down with the same.

For most of my folders I use Chris reeve Grease, it works great! I have blue lube too, and it works fine but needs to be placed more often.

Squeaking? Really? I have a bunch of EKI's and I never had one squeak. Is this a normal thing now?

I used to take mine apart, put an extremely thin layer of crk grease just on the tang of the blade where the washers pivot and put it back together.

Im sure it got some CLP in there at some point when I would put a drop or two on the blade, but squeaking? I actually just got my EKI's out that have been in storage for a few years and they still didn't squeak.

Kevin, there was some squeaking during break in from the detent ball on the liner rubbing the stonewash. It went away after a few days and is now wicked smooth!

None of my Emersons squeek, I'd tear it down and rebuild it again, evenly tighten the screws and as someone else mentioned; adjust the pivot - a squeeking detent seems highly unusual to me.
