are there specific ones for this this or do you just get magnetic jewelry clasps and make your own?

I'm talking about a very small light folder like a spyderco ladybug

thanks

Are talking about connecting the necklace part together or what? I'm not a neck knife guy so hopefully someone will know. I do EDC a small fixed blade almost every day on my belt or in a KSF pocket sheath.

I would search for relatively thin neodymium magnets at specialty magnet sites. There are different grades of neodymium magnets, just keep that in mind. Some sites give the strength of the magnets. I have ordered from K&J Magnetics before, very good selection.

Do you have any examples of what you'd like it to look like? Do you mean to hold the chain together or to hold the knife in a small sheath?

sorry i should have been more specific. i would attach one to the knife via the lanyard hole and the other would be on the necklace to attach the knife too.

im not sure what will be used for the necklace yet but i doubt i would be able to use a magnetic clasp on it as i would probably unclasp it every time i pulled the knife off. unless its a much stronger magnet holding the necklace together then the one used for knife retention

ill check K&J out lemon. thanks for the recommendation

Sounds like a really neat idea. I agree that a magnetic clasp to hold the necklace would be a bad idea. If the magnet idea doesn't work you may be able to use a keychain quick release.

I think it would be easy enough to get a strong magnet, even too strong for a small knife. BRKT actually makes leather sheaths for neck knives that contain magnets.

Another idea- I once bought a kydex sheath for a fonding knife that is made to carry around your neck. The Kydex is molded so that the knife snaps into it.

Check this thread I made about 6 months ago. System works great and I still carry my dogtag like this daily. http://www.spyderco.com/forumII/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=67765

And if anyone is wondering if the dogtag is actually capable of cutting anything check this thread for a laugh. :D http://www.spyderco.com/forumII/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=68624&hilit=dogtag+fillet

this is EXACTLY what I'm looking for!

the link does not work in that thread for me. can you possibly shoot me a link or more info on the exact one you have?

thanks

All of it would make me nervous. That had better be one strong magnet.
Neodymium magnets are pretty dang strong! It would probably have to be a pretty small set, especially if they are going to connect flush w eachother., as when they are completely together they stick pretty crazy. I'd almost be worried about having those attached to a blade. It could jump out of your hand around metal, etc. Or around the sheath, which is near your chest and neck[emoji33] . either way, you'll have a ton of fun playing with them. They're also brittle.
