Here is the Kershaw Ken Onion Chive, taken apart. The Speed Safe mechanism is a little more complicated than an most auto knives, but if your mechanically inclined you'll do fine. My only suggestion is use a quality Torx screwdriver to remove screws, as they are very small and the hrads will stip easily if the fit is not tight.

Man, that's wild! Thanks for sharing. I've repaired my own Scallion, but the Chive looks like a different animal. No easy scales. Is that a plate to hold the bar in place?

I had a good time with the Kershaw warranty people. When I first called them, we had a misunderstanding and they sent me a pocket clip instead. The second time, they sent me a Chive spring. The third time, they sent me two Chive springs, two Scallion springs and a bag of screws! Sure they got it wrong twice, but they were at least fast (and cordial) in making their errors. I got all these parts in the span of a week and a half!

The plate sandwiches the spring between the scale and the plate.

 Man I wish I had thought up this mechanisim.
