What makes Busse cost more than a Swamp Rat?

Swamp Rats and Scrapyards have excellent steel, heat treat, performance records, unconditional warranties, and are made in the same factory as Busse with the same basic designs.

Given the close relationship of the Busse family, why such a HUGE price difference between Busse and the others??

I'm talking about performance, not obvious manufacturing or material costs.

Don't own infi but have heard it has more stain resistance. And...for a guy who lives in Oregon...and prefers Swamp Rat...not sure either.

I don't think there's much performance difference -- at least not outside of a testing facility... In other words, I honestly believe Swamp Rat knives will outdo any other manufacturers knives, hands down. Infi will outdo Swamp Rat, in performance -- but only in the most severe of tests that you or I will never put a knife through. Other than that, the price difference seems to be all manufacturing and material costs. I really appreciate the stain resistance of Busses here in the humidity of Houston. But it's a steep price to pay just to have a shiny knife instead of a coated one...

Do yourself a favor -- get a Rat. You'll end up loving it so much (like me) that you'll get 2 or 3 more. Finally, one day, you'll run across a good deal on a user Busse. Once you get that in your hands and use it a while, you'll be in love and your credit cards will never be safe :o

They really are ALL amazing knives.

Xaman has it right...

My first "Real" knife was a SR RatWeiler. I heave beaten on that thing but good... Asks for more...

Since then, picked up a MudWeiler, M6 and Bandicoot. Love them all...

Last month, got a good deal on my first Busse (HellRazor). Simply amazing. I have bought 6 more since ranging from GWs to FBMs... No regrets on them at all, plus still waiting for some of SRs new Choppers to show up.

SIX MORE!!!! IN ONE MONTH!!!!

I just want ONE, and thats gonna take a lot longer than a month!

BTW, good places to scout for deals???

Kinda like Audi & VW, premium price for better steel, however, SR101 is to me as good as INFI, the new SR77 from SYD might be better in some aspect. Just collect em all. I like INFI in smaller config, SR101 in medium, and SR77 in the Dog father. Busse is definitely more refine as of a S8, SRKW as of a S4, SR77 say a touareg in V10! I do miss the 70s super bug though! also the bus and the thing.

And with Wauseon steel you don't even have to frequently adjust the points!

(ex-owner of a 73 Super Beetle and a '64 Ghia.)

Man, miss my '74/'75 Super Beetle. Had a '75 body and chassis with all the guts from a '74.

The '75 had a Fuel Injected motor that burned up, but only the motor was trash. I had a '74 that ran great but was rusting into oblivion. A few busy weekends later and I had a great Bug. Later dropped a street CAM in it and a progressor carb. Could catch 'wheel' in first and second gear without even trying... Threw on some EMPI wheels and Pirelli's and It was a snappy college vehicle. Metallic Green and Grey Primer...

Been 15+ years since it gave up the ghost. *sniff* Miss that thing...

Ok, back on topic... :D
