What makes this axe so expensive

What makes this axe so expensive?

Not certain, but I'm guessing methamphetamine. But it could be LSD. Hard to say which drugs the bidders are on.

But kidding aside, that's a nice axe. Great condition. Made for export so there aren't many around. And as the 5th photo shows it's pre-Permabond so it's an oldie. The lucky seller caught two collectors in a bidding war. He's giggling right now.

I only wish I had a couple of these. Everything I have on hand is merely old. Collectors and users are two entirely different kettles of fish. By my thinking the folks that lust over extravagant Swedish one-offs shouldn't baulk at the opportunity to pay $400 for a real axe.

I typically only pay user's prices, and damn near never collectors prices, which is why I don't hunt for axes on auction sites. People ask a rediculous amount of money for them. Going out for another run down South (Southern Maine that is) to hopefully pick up some more resto projects. Get 'em cleaned and re-haft them this Christmas when I'm home on Winter Block Leave. Damned BCT in a week and a half.

Nice old axe, unusual/ rare pattern, but that is a crazy crazy price... I would pay $40 or so for it but thats only because I'd really like to have a cedar pattern axe and I don't yet.

BCT ... Basic ?
Where are you going through BCT? I did OSUT on an 11X contract back in "the day"
Good luck to ya!

Somebody upped the ante and this may also have been artificial or rigged, or maybe someone out there with deep pockets really has a hard-on for a mostly unused version of 'that' axe, or 'that type' of axe. Me being an idiot would have cheerfully coughed up $100 for something like this (excellent condition, pleasing shape, fine pedigree) already knowing what new H-Bs, Councils etc cost but I have plenty enough axes on hand already and won't be in on any bidding war for this one.

BCT at Ft. Sill, and AIT out in Arizona. In for a 35 series MOS so I'll be making good axe money after my contract ends.

I think I did pretty well snagging this EXACT head for $20 on eBay a few weeks ago. It had never been sharpened and was only lightly dulled on the toe. I'll post some pics with my 4# cedar pattern axe once I finish hanging it. It is 2.5# with a 5.5" edge. I took it out for a test chop and love it. I can see why these were so good for dropping cedars. About 5 swings and you're done on a medium sized tree.

Wasn't that the one used in Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter? ;)

Very cool looking just not $500 cool.
