Looks like Micarta. I had some at one time the same color as that. I think mine came from something electrical.

yup, phenolic laminate.

used a lot for heavy ware surfaces such as router tables and table saws.

good stuff

This is a product called textolite. It is manufactured by General Electric. We used it to make prototype dies is the appliance industry. It can be milled, tapped and drilled.

Tan canvas Micarta! Micarta is a Westinghouse trademark, but whoever made it, it's still tan canvas Micarta to me. Phonelic resin and canvas material in layers, compressed under trememdous pressure which makes the heat that bonds it all together.

It's toxic, so get a respirator rated for organic vapor and formaldehyde if you use it, and clean everything up afterwards(clothes included) as the stuff can get in your system through contact with the skin. Very harmful to pets.

Its made by several manufactures, under different names. In the cutlery industry, Its called Micarta. Regardless who made it. Kinda like the old days when any carpenters electric circular saw was called a Skill saw. Even if it was a Black and Decker. The grade pictured is called Canvas reinforced penolic laminate. ie. Micarta. The color is natural, and or brown. I have a shop full of it. Makes for a mean desert camo pattern when bead, or sand blasted for combat knives headed for the gulf. Mike

Anyone have some old Westinghouse yellow micarta to sell?? I really need some. Your kind help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Kai

Westinghouse sold the trade name micarta to American paper years ago. Another trade name is Garolite. Most companies that make it call it by it's technecial name. This would be C or CE grade Phenolic laminate
