On a folder, what material is preferred? Aluminum? Titanium? Carbon Fiber? G-10? Steel? Bone? Stag?

Lots of choices...each has its uses...my personal solution was to try them all

. Still working on the choices...so many combinations and variations. The black g10 seems to suit me most...preferred it textured as done on the REKATS or SERE2, rather that the slicker treatment of Spydie or BM....but hey thats me...what do I know..I'm still using my Glucks with their original grip tapes. Won't necessarily win any beauty contests but hey these are tools to me folks.

I have G10, Micarta, Titanium, Carbon Fiber, Leather (sword handle), and wood will soon be added to that list, if all goes well. I like them all, for their own purposes. G10 is great at taking abuse. Micarta follows it closely. Titanium and CF are look great in a technological way. Wood looks great in natural way. Leather is both traditional and functional for sword handles. So, if you give us a better idea of what type of knife you're thinking of, maybe we can give some more specific answers. Until then, I'll just say that I like them each, for their own reasons.

Well it seems that as far as handles go the big five seem to be G-10,micarta,carbon fiber, titanium, aluminum. Then there are your natural materials.I think it winds up being a matter of preference and intended pupose for the knife when choosing a handle material. Some materials have better attributes or strong points in certain areas. So lets say you need a extremely chemical resistent handle, certain materials would be better suited for the purpose. The above listed though are the major popular materials at this point in time it would seem.

I like natural materials the best. Mammoth ivory, stag and wood feel great in the hand. After that I like titanium and G10. Titanium for looks and G10 for toughness.
