What model am I looking for?

Hello to all of you knife guys and girls out here today.

I am trying to remember the model number of a buck knife I used to have. It was like the 103 Skinner, but had the Kraton handle, and the non-leather sheath. I had one for a short while and then sold it and have missed it since then. I can't for the life of me remember what the model was. How much would a user knife of this be worth, and does anyone have one they would want to part with?

Also, since this would be the place to ask...... I used to have a 639 Buck. It was stainless and had the Kraton handle as well. I could never keep this knife sharp. It would get nearly razor sharp when I honed it, but when it was left untouched for a week or so, the edge would leave it. It would only be so-so sharp. It seemed like anytime I wanted to use it, I would have to touch up the blade again. Unlike my 102, which seems to stay sharp no matter what I use it for. Is that a common thing for Buck stainless? I sold the 639 for that reason, but I would also like to have one like it again, or a Buckmaster 184 but am wary of the sharp factor.

Thanks in advance for any input and best wishes to all for the Holiday Season.

You know.....they had a skinner that I think they called the Model 110 at one time.

That's all I can remember right now, and I'll take a look around, but I'm sure others will be along soon.

Welcome, BTW, if nobody has said it before.

Oh yes, the 110 is a much older model skinner.

As far as your sharpening problem, I've never experienced it myself. I have a 619 that's been sitting for a few years and I just checked it and it's just like I left it.......very, very sharp.

I'd suggest you check e-Bay.

Oh yes, the 110 is a much older model skinner.

Sure was, prior to the "110" we all know and love, there was a 110 skinner fixed blade that was also available as part of a Model 210 "Twinset" with a double sheath that also held a Model 102.

Yeah, one of my uncles had one of those 110s although he didn't have the Twinset.

Sure wish I could have gotten that from him.

That was a long time ago and who knew I would ever want such a knife?

Hammer, The sharp problem you recount is rare among any knife but does occur . Its refered to as "metal memory" . Whereby the steel actually curls after sharpening while in the sheath or on a shelf in non-use . Its easy to fix just steel it or strop it a few light strokes before use . It eventually goes away . The other item at work which could cause it is corrosion, from the leather sheath, living near sea water or a humid area like Houston, TX.. Thats an easy fix as well . I agree w/ Larry on the model . DM

Don't do that to me DM!!!!:eek:

Now I am going to be going through my blades to see if the edges have magically curled up on me.:D:D
