Hey everyone , havent posted here in a while.
Looking for a knife for my truck., when trail riding etc, What can i use to chop branches/ bushes when i need to do some clearing.

Something tough with some forward weight if possible.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Also not looking to spend a fortune ( I will be keeping my eyes out for blems etc) but just curious on what model i should keep my eyes open for.

Hi, Aaron. I've carried a couple in my truck: BGRS (current), 16.5" WWII. The WWII is a little heavier, IIRC. I had a BAS for a while, but it was a little bit too light for me.

From your description of the work that's expected of them, any of the above should work. They're certainly all tough.

I have a Sirupate in my truck. I guess it depends on the vegitation in your neck of the woods. I find mostly bushes, vines and small tree like plants. Nothing is over 2" dia. A see machetes in trucks but they are too light for what I run into.

If you have thicker "stuff", I agree with munk. A 15" AK is great or a 16.5 " WW2, or a Chirua, or................:p
Don't worry you can't go wrong with any of them.

Just to parrot the others, a nice beefy 18" siru would take out most anything under 2" in diameter without a problem. A 15" AK would be packable yet stout enough to take out most any branches that you don't mind getting close to. An 18" AK would, with time and sweat, clear fallen trees of 8" or more, but would be quite a bit heavier to lug around.

Personally, I gravitate toward the lighter blades for trail blazing. I have a couple of longer stouter blades that will cleave through most anything that I could want to try to tackle.

Aaron, what is the thickness of the vegetation/branches you typically encounter? An 18" or even 15-16" BGRS (or any of the other models mentioned) should do the job with no problem.

Ill probly find mostly vines with max thickneyss 3/4", then branches etc up to 2"

I haev to make sure this thing will fit in my lock box that is in the truck too.

Take a look at today's specials. If you don't need a scabbard, then you could hardly do better than that 18 inch 27 oz WWII by Sher for $65. If you want a scabbard and something a little smaller will do, then the 15.5 inch 24 oz AK by Dil Bhadur Kami at $85 is a deal.

This model presents an attractive option. (Can't say as much for the blades, though.)

25" AK should fit in the lock box. :D

General purpose, get an 18" model - either AK or WWII, depending on what blems surface.

I'd say a kukri in the 18-20" range.
My 20" Ang Khola would go through that stuff like it's not there.
My 18" WWII might take an extra swing on a 2" branch, but is much lighter than the 20".

Sounds more like brush work then heavy chopping. The Sirupati models 18", 20 or 22" would do nicely. Or Gelbu Special or other thinner light blades. WWII also does good. I carry and have used a 20" Sirupati (name's Lisa and she is 23 onces) for thin branches and brush, it does great. I've even cleared trails for the US Forest Service with it. In January 2005 I also cleared a trail for Provo City a few blocks from where I live. It's called the Provo River trail and runs from the top of Provo Canyon to Utah lake some 5+ miles away. We cleared a block or two worth of trail. Mostly some vines, brush and branches under 4" thick. Lisa made quick work of anything growing along the river and road. Had my 16.5" WWII model just in case, but didn't use it much because of Lisa's better reach.

I also have an really thick 15" AK that I use for felling and limbing trees. Use a 12" AK and 15" Sirupati for camp chores. :)

Heck, if you're mostly going to be clearing brush and small stuff, why not opt for a Kobra and save yourself the effort of swinging a heavier khuk around?

It's hard to wrong with a 15" AK. I love my big WWII but I wouldn't want to carry it on my belt for any length of time.

If it's for light brush a Kobra, Gelbu Special, Sirupati, Chainpuri, Chitlangi in the 18-20" will do you well.

Ganga Ram, Ang Khola and WWII will do well at the light brush, but you won't get as much reach for the weight. I consider them to be better suited for bigger jobs.

I agree with Skyler, but I have shortlisted 18" chainpuri or sirupati. Kobra looks too scary and chitlangi too pretty;)
