I was going thru my knife draw and I came upon this Randall

Is it a model 14 or 18 ?

It has a rough back sheath does this help age it ?

Can anyone tell me what options it has and what it is worth ?

I bought it many years ago at a gun show

Thanks

Hi Joe, I see you called - later I spoke with SG. Lunde is spot-on re. the options; I'd like to buy the knife for myself, not for resale. Age - mid to late 1980's. Value - call and we can talk, I'll make it worth your while.

p.s. Happy New Year guys

Can we use this forum as a venue to learn about our Randall's too, i love them, but aparently i know nothing about them other than i can use it and trust it?

I am sometimes confused about how you guys call model numbers. This looks like a dive knife to me 16 with sawback option and a double hilt. not a 14. Could ya'll maybe educate me on what qualifies this as a 14 please? It certainly seems that alot of you have the randall knowledge i seek.

I like to read too, a book recomendation wouldn't be unwelcome.

Ron,

See my sig line above; I wrote a reference book on RMK's, now sold at the Randall shop, that covers some of the basics. As to the difference between the model #16 'Diver' and #14 'Attack' with a #18 blade grind; the #14 blade is 7.5" long and 1.25" 'wide' from the blade spine to blade edge - while the #16 is 7" long and 1.125" wide...there are other minor differences re. the blade profile as well.

Hope that helps,

Shel

p.s. I'll post some comparison photos once Joe's knife arrives...a photo being worth, well, you know. ;)

Hey Shel it was great talking to ya and I hope you enjoy the knife.

Thanks again. Happy New Year

SG was right you are a great guy

Thank you, Shel. I will acquire that book in the near future.
