photobucket019.jpg

the blade IS NOT balanced open. from closed, to this point, the blade is loose when the lockbar is stuck

the knife WAS NOT ABUSED and i babied the heck out of it. carried it for 2 months, and this happened all on its own. to "fix" the lockbar being stuck, it must be slammed closed. being sent out tomorrow. wish me luck :)
EDIT-fixed the pics anyways

looks like your lock spring broke/slipped loose... can we get a pic looking directly down between the scales?

at any rate, i helped you get the photos up. are you more concerned with posting photos or trouble shooting your knife?

hard to tell by looking at the pic if your lock spring has slipped foward oris still there lol. cs customer service/warranty is pretty good. you should have a new knife in a 2-3weeks

yeah. i hope so. ive checked it all out. it still locks open great. the spring is still there and intact. i read a thread about an "unseated leaf spring". i think i have that. got my letter, box, receipt all ready to go. goin out tomorrow

I am not familiar with how the lock spring is secured on the mini AK. Some knives use mechanical fasteners, some use spring tension against the back spacer. The only way I can see this happening is if your lock spring has come loose from it's anchoring.

Let us know if Cold Steel tells you what happened.

from what i know, it uses a pin to keep the bar there. this pin has extra room around it, so when the blade is struck on something, the whole peice moves instead of the lock snapping. when this happens, the leaf spring slides up, and the bar hits on the tri-ad-lock's stop pin. but, im my case, i didnt abuse it. it moved all on its own

Yeah, I'm sticking with a defect in the spring anchor. The lockbar looks fine, but the spring that tensions the lockbar came loose, somehow.

I'm also going to guess that CS will say this is a factory defect, and replace it for free.

If they don't, you need to make a lot of noise!

Have you tried lubing the pivot where the rocker bar rotates on? Mine had a similar issue like that, until I put oil there.

literally, not even exaggerating, i has so much oil on this thing, that it was DRIPPING. i was devastated when this started, cuz it was my first "high dollar" knife. it was my favorite ever. and this leads to the other thing, no. i did not take it apart. i wasnt going to mess with something i liked so much.

Taking Apart A Knife, Especially When You're A Little New To Knives, Isn't A Good Idea.
That And It Voids Warranty.
So If You Took Said Knife Apart, Couldn't Fix The Issue, And Had Issues Getting It Back Together, Etc. CS Wouldn't Fix It For You.

Anyways, Sounds Like It's The Spring Anchor Like Others Said, And I Think You're Doing The Best Thing By Sending It Out To CS.

Anyways Good Luck With Your Knife. =]

thank you. i would'nt say im new to knives, but i usually dont have them break, because im light on them, so i never have to take them apart

Yeah, If You've Never Really Tinkered Around With A Knife... I Wouldn't Take Apart Your First "High Dollar" Knife By Any Means.

I've Been Into Knives For Around 3 Years Or So... Probably A Little Longer.. And I'm Still Relatively New To Knives Compared To Most Members Here Lol. But I've Taken Apart And Tinkered With Many Knives, Including Doing Mods, Etc.

Now I'm Dulling My Collection Down To Two Categories - Spydercos And SAK's.

I'm More Of A User Than A Collector, And Would Have Been Disappointed If My First "Real" Knife Had Failed On Me Lol. But, It Happens And It's Fixable, And As You Get More And More Into Knives.. You'll End Up With Knives That You'll Compare To Your First, And Wonder What Made You Pick The First Lol.

And Then You'll Find Knives That You Wish Were Your First Because They Aren't Quite As Good As Your First Real Knife Was.

We Go Through A Lot Of Phases Lol.

But If You Want To Learn About Taking Knives Apart And Such.. I Would Start On The Cheaper Knives That You Don't Really Care If You Can Fix Them Or Put Them Back Together. Eventually, You'll Learn Your Basics, And What You Need To Know.

well i was given a whole bunch of frost knives, if anything, ill mess with frost. cuz they suck anyways. theres not a whole lot i can do to make them worse.
or winchester. theyre iffy. idk if id wanna break them though.
but frost knives have thier place. theyre good to use for stupid things. like scraping or prying when it doesnt matter
