Hello, This is my first post to this board and I thought it might as well be a constructive post! I know this has been discussed already but I am wondering what Neck Knife do you think I should get, This knife will most likely be used for self defense, and maybe when I forget my folder used to cut something every once in a while!

My 2 main choices are that of

1-Microtech Medallion Neck Knife
2-WOO neck knife

If yout think of another neck knife suitable for my needs I would appreciate it. I am most likely going to buy this neck knife in the next week or two.

Thanks Again

Welcome to the forums tuxz0r!

Lots of these out there lately...

Inexpensive:

CRKT Stiff KISS or PECK
Camillus Arclite
Newts Celt, WOO, Six or others
and other production models...

You could go a step up and get a custom or semi-custom (or whatever the new terms are!):

Running Dog makes some nice small knives, Kit Carsons F4 is a great little knife and the 'Sniper' and 'Patrolman' by Lynn Griffith look like winners.

Too many to list, I could be here all night in this class. :)

The Woo is a very good knife and inexpensive also. Great bang for the buck.

Thanks For all the Info people, I am currently looking at the Kit Carson F4, This knife is exactly what I have been drawing at home for sketches that I was going to have custom made for me. Still it is $140 that is really expensive, Also what do you people think of the Knife made by Nilkkniven, I think that is how you spell it? Anyways that dagger looks like it would suit me farely well, Also
I looked at the cammilus it is in my price range, But I also have a local canfields and they carry neck knives there I think I will check out there for a neck knife to hold me over untill I order a good neck knife!

Also, If anyone reading this has an old neck knife just sitting on you desk, table, chest, etc. not doing anything let me know I might buy from you!

Thanks Again,

Hi Ed... Let me first welcome you to the forum, and hope that you enjoy your stay.:)
Your question is very hard to answer, because there are so many neck knives, custom, and production. I think though, the decision as to witch one is for you, ultimately will have to be your's. What someone else likes, you might not.
My suggestion to you is try going to some knife shows, and checking out some blades, and make your choice. I'm sure that you will get some very fine suggestions, and that will help you a little by letting you know about the many different neck knives that are out there. In the end though, it's going to be your choice... Good luck!:)
Here is a good place to look at some... Click Here!

i have a few neckers (woo, arclite,KISS) and have looked at a few more - my personal favorite is the WOO - i dont carry it much as a neck knife anymore put a G clip on the sheath and wear it inside the waistband when i want a fixed blade which is very inconspicuous - it is a cool little knife for the $, i have 2 now, bought 1 froma forumite that looks like new to me for $20, cant beat that .....yhe fallkniven, the regular neck knife (what is it??) is pretty good, the WM1 i think, but much more expensive than the woo, and the G1 Garm (?) while cool is pretty high too, and double edge to boot which makes it illegal in my neck of the woods........

I love the Griffes (have both Emerson and Perrin handmade). The Fallkniven WM-1 is a great little knife too.
Not to sound disrespectful, but make sure you know what you´re doing, technically (training) and legally, if you want to use a knife for self-defense.

Depends. Any good quality neck knife is useful for general purpose. As a backup? Emerson LeGriffe, definitely!

i have to toss in another vote for the la griffe! you can get the emerson version if you don't want to spend a lot, or you can pitch in a couple more bucks for the fred perrin version (recommended).
peace.

Like it was said before look into the Running Dog Knives. Nice knives and sheath system! Even Gary Bradburn, His neck Knives Rock! ;)

Use the search tools for some rich content on this topic...some very recent (last 2 weeks). You'll find various people's desired design criteria and recommendations.

Bob said it best.If you really want to make a wise choice,go to a good knife show or a large knife store with a production/custom inventory is the best way to go.You should really look at custom as well as production neck knives. There is such a huge selection, but something as secondary as a sheath can make or break a neck knife system.I have owned alot of neck knives in different styles.IN my opinion the best knife and sheath system overall is from Bud Nealy.IN fact you will find the sheath system as impressive as the knives themselves.I know that custom knives aren't cheap, but it's an investment in quality that will probably outlast you.So with that in mind,if finances permit don't rule out spending a couple of bills. Also you can find some great deals if you keep your eyes open in the various for sale forums.I've myself have sold a couple of my Bud Nealy's for a fraction of what I paid for them brand new.Actually,I've owned probably a large variety of neck knives over the past couple of years maybe a fifteen or more, and at least five were Nealy pieces.Needless to say,I tend to make my rounds, but always seem to go back to buying Bud's work.Whatever you decide, get the best you can afford.

Well, Thanks for all the advice, I guess I will have to wait for a knife show to come to Nebraska, I still haven't seen anywhere that there are any here but if there is I will be there, Also Any of you seen Mike Snody's Knife's? They look like they would be good also, I'm really appreciative of all your help, I also Searched the forums and found some more useful information!

Thanks Again,
Eddie Stanek

I carry one by Tim Johnson (aka Taz). It is simply awesome. I had mine designed as more of a utility first defense third kinda thing but he'll make whatever you want and fairly cheap (mine was like $75)

I wore a CRKT Stiff KISS for about 15 months. I recently replaced it with the Camillus Arclite. Both those can be had for no more than $20. I got a used REKAT Fang from the sales forum. The sheath is a bit loose, and I never seem to get around to baking it in the oven to squeeze it tighter. If it worked properly, absolutely no doubt it would be my neck knife. I really love it.

Tho I don't need them, have been seriously thinking about getting both the CRKT Bear Claw, and the Stiff KISS with the drop point blade. Mine is the half-serrated tanto. Got that before I knew much. Am not a fan of either tantos or combo blades.

As others have said, there is a tremendous variety out there. You might enjoy checking out New Livesay's site. Everybody talks about the Woo, but he has 2 or 3 others I would much prefer to the Woo. The prices are quite reasonable.

Good luck. Woops, forgot to say welcome to the forums!

My personal favorite neck knife - the REKAT Pikuni -

Very comfortable handle.
Great sheath.
D2E steel - I haven't had any problems with moisture affecting this steel (and I perspire profusely :D )
Built like a tank yet small and relatively lightweight

Just make sure you find a good one - some of the first production run had problems.
