What new Becker to get with birthday money?

Well one of my gifts for my birthday was a $50 Amazon gift card...

I was really condiering ordering another Ranger knife... I recently got the AFGHAN and I really like it, actually. I've heard people complain about the grip, but I find it very nice. It's a little blocky, sure, and I may add a bit more radius to the slabs to enhance the ergos a bit... but overall I find it very comfortable... and the FFG on the 1/4" makes it feel so much thinner than the BK2... makes me really want a FFG BK2 (HINT HINT ;))

Anyways... I'm thinking I may just get another Becker instead. I have another set of micarta anyways... so I won't even have to buy the scales... I just can't decide what I want...

I already have:

- 2x BK2
- BK4
- BK7
- BK9
- BK12
- BK16

All have micarta and stainless hardware. Only the 4, 12, and 16 still have the coating on....

I do want the BK17 pretty bad... but I honestly have no desire in getting more tweeners until the factory micarta is available. I made the 16 usable by adding some liners and roughing up the scales a little with sandpaper... but the plastic scales just feel cheap in my hand. Not confidence inspiring. Something about the micarta that just feels good in my hands....

So then I was thinking I should probably get a BK5... That's pretty much the only big one I don't have... other than the BK3 - which I'm not really too interested in... or the Brute.. which I REALLY want.. but don't want to spend $200 on.. nor can I get it from Amazon....

Soo.. what say you?! Am I REALLY missing out without a BK5 in the mix?? Something else you would suggest??

I was actually going to suggest a BK5, or if you wanted one for more usability in a wider variety of situations, BK15. The 5 is great, but it is pretty big, whereas the 15 is the same thing only scaled down to a much more usable size for your average person.

I'd go with the BK15. Best steak knife ever...and I find myself reaching for it quite a bit lately.

if you want something your scales fit on then the 5 is really ur only other option since ur not intersted in the 3. you have the 16...hmmm honestly id say deal without micarta and get a 17 or grab an 11 or 14 since the 16 is ur smallest blade.

I have every intention of ordering the 17 as soon as the micarta comes available.. I just really have no desire for it until then. The ESEE 4 filles that role for now.

16 is only my smallest Becker... I have the Izula too and I don't carry it that much. For an EDC knife I keep the SAK in my pocket, JYD on my pocket, and ESEE 4 in my backpack.

I think the 5 is making the cut...ordering now... should have it tomorrow.

I have the potbelly on my wish list too... but again, I need(want) micarta for it...

The BK10 is probably coming out next year if you can wait. Otherwise the only becker left is the 5.

My BK5 when it was new (this thread needs some pics :) )

Thanks Eero! Mine will be looking like this by Saturday. :)

Althought probably not as dark... I generally go for lighter patinas... but who knows... maybe I'll go dark with this one...

I just got a $75 gift card from amazon for work so I'm torn between the 9 and the 7... I can get the 9 and only have to kick in like $4.

For you, go with the 5. You'll LOVE it! Unless you get the new kitchen knives. But I have the 5 and the 15 and in the kitchen I grab the 5 more so.

BK5 is agreat knife, The Bk15 is really nice also.
I didn't like them til they were in my hands then I understood.

I bet I know what Clich would say if he was still hanging around here. 5!

My vote is for the 5 also, I would like to get one at some point. I really like my 15 and can imagine how the larger brother of it is equally as awesome.

My thoughts exactly. I notice a suspicious lack of neck sized knives on your list :)

A BK14 and handles for it can be had for just under $50. Sounds like it was meant to be to me :)

Mine too, everybody needs at least one "discrete" Becker :)

You can get a BK14 AND a BK13 and probably only have to kick in a few bucks. I used my BK13 to do some pumpkin carving today, worked great!

Hrm. I may get a 14.. like i said.. I don't carry my Izula very often at all.. My Kershaw JYD takes care of that role pretty well... but maybe....

I already ordered the 5... but I may order a 14 as well. :)
