What New Knife Should I Buy?

Alright so here are the prerequisites for the new knife I'd like to purchase. I've searched around and I haven't really found any existing threads that match what I'm trying to find.

I want a new tactical knife, leaning towards fixed for this one though folders are still an option.

- Preferably 5" or under
- Kydex or Zytel sheath, I'd be wearing this on a Mercharness or IWB
- It cannot be double edged
- For folders, ideally, I'd like to have a wave form opener of some sort although automatics and assisted openers are an option as well
- I don't have a HUGE preference in steels

Now here's the most important requirement - Price. I'd like to keep the price under $150 but my budget can be stretched up to $200 for the right knife.

Any suggestions?

Thanks for the help in advance guys!

Zero Tolerance 0121...can probably shop around and find it for around 150.

If you wanna stretch the budget, check out the Microtech Currahee (if you can find them) or the Crosshair.

I would look at the Bark River line in the $100 to $150 range. They are good knives overall.

Horton Knives-Maybe a necker.
Check them out on Horton Knives on the Makers forum.
Sorry, missed your price limit, But

Benchmade is an excellent choice in a plain edge. The 5-inch Cold Steel Voyager also is a winner. If you don't mind a little weight, I love the CRKT M21-04, and it's inexpensive.

I like knives with larger blades. The Voyager is light and strong.

Good suggestions so far. I'm not a huge fan of Cold Steel and I'm definitely not terribly fond of SOG stuff.

Any other ideas?

RAT Cutlery is know called ESEE. It's an accronym that translates into "survival school" if I recall correctly.

EDIT: Escuela de Supervivencia (School of Survival), Escape and Evasion

Ah, alright. Thanks.

well i try, :D any of those would be great
dont forget to get an izula!

Don't forget to add to that, the Brat (Becker + RAT collaboration). The Brat is basically a Becker necker with an Izula handle. Not out yet, but it's coming.

I've already got TWO Becker Neckers. One in the 1095 and the other in the San Mai version. I couldn't fathom having still yet a THIRD fixed blade in that size range.

But I also want the clip point versions of the 4, 5, or 6 and those don't appear to be available yet and I'm impatient as hell. :/

Do you have any places you'd recommend for picking up an ESEE from though?

well i was kidding about the izula, the clip point versions should be matriculating down the dealer network soon :D so i guess you could wait till then, or just get the normal ESEE 3 or 4.

-Points above- I edited my post yet one more time. Any good places to pick up existing ESEE's in the sizes that I'm considering that would come with the new sheath configuration that has the clip plate?

There are several Entrek fixed blades that would fit your requirements. Here is a link to the models available along with their specs. These are manufactured by Ray Ennis, a well reknowned custom maker, and a GREAT value for what you get.

BTW, the prices you see are MSRP and these can be had for less, considerable less in some cases.
