Hi all in the greatest forum of all !!

I got myself a BAS by Bura (2 weeks ago) and then I got another for my father-in-law by Durba. I am hooked, what recomendations are there for my next baby.

Maybe something a little bigger and with a different blade shape. :)

I've had my greedy little eyes on an 18" Gelbu special for awhile.

Your guess is as good as ours...I have had many khukris come and go in what time I have spent here. All HI khukris are excellent.

Read through the posts, search for topics that appeal to you, learn all you can. Then make your guess as to what you would like the most.

I go on many factors, the most impressive khukri buying habbit is impulse on UBDOTD's and PGA's. The frenzy's are at a all time high due to those stinking Maoists.

Brendan, I found myself asking the same question after I got my 21 inch Sirupati...and I wound up ordering a 15 inch Ang Khola.

The AK was so nice that I began thinking along the lines of more Khukuris, and so now I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of my new Chitlangi.

I'm trying to discipline myself now, but the Model 43's are so appealing. This is a hard train to get off of.

The Ysa is screaming at me or the Ganga Ram, they are both beautiful and unique !!

And I don't think you'll find two others that are as well liked(LOVED) by those who own them. The YCS is next on my list after the Cherokee Rose which I PREPAYED FOR TSIMI!!!!!!!HEE HEE HEE:p :p :D So you'll just have to keep your grubby, guano stained claws OFF OF IT!!;) :D

Transplanted Hawaiian, Make that " EXTREMELY GREEDY LITTLE EYES"!HEE

I'm hurt:( I delibrately don't snatch GS's away from Newbies and forum veterans, because I am an enlightened SAINT! and YOU make me seem greedy:( tsk tsk tsk. I will pray for you my misguided cave dwelling friend. ;) :D

Listen to my chief disciple Rog, make the call, come to the mountains and see the light!!

Brendan,

To save you the worry of trying to figure out *the* right khuk to get next, I'll offer up this streamlined purchasing strategy. ...

Go to the sale site and start at the top of the list and start buying one at a time (you *can* skip the different sizes if you wish. .. but you have to come back to them later).

The logic behind this strategy is you'll end up getting one of each *anyway*, so why add the worry of sorting through each khuks virtues. ... :D

Good luck, and welcome to the cantina (in case I didn'tsay hi before). ...

Brendan,

What's the best colour? Same question, different words.

I have two favourites (at the moment); a 19inch, 21 ounce Chitlangi and a 17inch 23 ounce BGRS. The Chiltangi is eeeeeeever so pretty - beautiful engravings, carved handle, lovely blade. Even my wife (not a knife enthusiast) is smitten with it and thinks it is the best khukuri I have by far. But even though I love the Chitlangi, the BGRS by Bura fits my own picture of the perfect khukuri (at the moment). It has no fancy engravings on the blade or handle. Although beautifully made, it is quite plain and simple compared to the Chitlangi. But it has those magnificent curves that fit the picture I have always had in my mind of what a khukuri looks like. I also favour the lighter khukuris (at the moment) and this must be one of the lightest BGRS's that Bura has made. My son loves his much heavier 18inch World War II (he has one of Sanu's heaviest) but what does he know! My daughter loves her 15 inch Sirupati - but then what do females know! But then I still have a BAS, a 15 inch Chiruwa AK, and a 17inch 27 ounce BGRS in the mail and on the way. Oh no, oh no - I think I am infected. Brendan, get out while you can.

Hmmmmm, I wonder what PGA's will be there tomorrow morning.:D

Bren & Glenn,
Want to REALLY go nuts!!!Do you really!!Try & get an M43,THEN YOU START SMILING,but what do I know,I'm just a poor, researcher, who owns only one ,maybe two K's,A Katana & a Tarwar!!
Being poor SUCKS!:( Oh yeah, WW2'S are nice, esp. 16.5"! Ak's are nice! GS are right up there too!Well, I have to go count my coins & see if I have enough for a cup of soup & maybe "one"Palla or UBDOTD! :(
jim(the Saint)

Right this very second there's a Chit and a BGRS just BEGGING for you to take them home!;)

EDIT: Whoops, no chitlangi. Better grab that baby ganga ram while you can.

Actually, the next step on this road you are treading is poverty and debt.

Just stop to say hi when you pass us on that road.. :D

My next one will probably be an 18" Sirupati. Really am smitten by that slender blade style.

Brendan -

In a way, I envy you. You're in the early stages of khukuri buying. This is the point at which you can sow your wild oats, so to speak; flirting with AK's and Mallas and Ganga Rams, loving 'em and leaving 'em. Sooner or later, you'll meet a 25" Kobra, settle down, raise lots of little stacks of cordwood, and never look at another khuk ever again.
