At this moment I only own six firearms—a couple of 1911s, a Ruger 22/45, a CZ 452, a CZ 75B, and a Browning Hi-Power. I’m pretty set on pistols, unless of course I come across a pre-lock pinned and recessed Smith and Wesson 27 or 28 or a Colt Python at a good price. I bought an AR lower, but I still have to take possession of it and I still need to get a few more parts before I can build it.

I’m wondering what I should save for next. I think I only need three more firearms. Everything else after that is a want. The pieces I need are the M1A, a shotgun, and a hunting rifle. I’m leaning heavily towards getting the M1A first as I think it’ll be the most likely item to be prohibited should another ban be put into place. The shotgun (probably a Remington 870) will probably be next as I don’t hunt, so it’ll have more utility. I’ll save the hunting rifle for last.

What do you guys think?

Sounds like a reasonable plan. Think about adding a pistol caliber carbine sometime.

I owned a Norinco M14S copy of the M14 back in the day before they were banned.

For the dollars at the time (1988 from memory) it was very good buy but I would have preferred a FN-FAL which I found to be much more suitable for my build and was a real pleasure to shoot.

I like the Springfield competition models, their accuracy is legend!

My first center fire revolver was a S&W Model 27, latter on I also owned a 4inch Model 28, both with pinned barrels etc.., but my favoutite revolver was the Colt Python, I had two 6inch barreled guns, one Royal Colt Blue made in the early 1960's and a nickel plated early 1970's version, the Colts remain my first choice in revolvers.

My next firearm is probably going to be .22 lever, a Marlin .45/70, or an O/U or S/S 12 gauge. As far as rifles go, I have a single shot .22 Remington and the 91/30 MN. Handgun wise, I have my father-in-law's old .38 special snub nose as an heirloom. For shooting, I'm pretty set up with a Ruger SR9 9mm and a nice ol' S&W 686 .357. I absolutely love the .357 caliber, and when you feed it .38 special, it's a laser beam.

Of all my firearms, my utility gun is my my Remington 870. It eats anything. It can take game. It can defend my home. It can take on enemies with both 4 legs and 2. It never jams and always goes bang. bird, buck, or slug the cheapie 870 express really fills all the niches I need to fill:thumbup:

If you have the money, the M1A ought to be next, for the reason you mentioned. I'd rather have a Garand, but I know your thoughts about milsurps,, so the M1A makes sense. If it is going to be a while, an SKS or mini 30 might be a hedge against losing out, if you think a ban might come before you can get the cash for the M1A.

870s should be around for a long time to come, same for hunting rifles.

Take care,

Tom

Think of it like this:

Anything with detachable magazines with capacities of more than 10 rounds will always be the first to get banned. If the M1A fits you and you can get a passel of magazines for reasonable price, that is the way to go. Shotguns and bolt guns are in this nation by the MILLIONS so there will always be a good 870 or bolt gun to find, even after a ban.
