I'm not sure what knife I should get next. I don't even have any idea what i'm going to use my next knife for (my Spyderco Military fills the EDC role perfectly). My budget is $150 (ignore shipping costs). This may be a bit complicated because there isn't a real reason i'm buying these knives except to fuel my addiction...so, here we go:
  • Zero Tolerance ZT0200 ($130)
  • Zero Tolerance ZT0500 MUDD ($145)
  • Zero Tolerance ZT0400 ($120)
  • Cold Steel Gunsite ($70)
  • Cold Steel Recon 1 ($75)
  • Buck Vantage Pro ($45)
  • Benchmade 710 ($110)
  • Emerson CQC-10 ($130)
  • Kershaw Shallot ZDP-189 ($80)
  • Ontario RAT-1 ($30)
Sorry, the list is big and you're going to have to do the math if you think i should get 2 knives. Again I don't really know what i'm looking for :o
good luck!

Out of your list...

ZT0200 or CQC-10.

I have the 200 and a CQC-13, and would honestly recommend either.

You'll probably end up with most of your list anyway, so you only have to worry about the order :D

i vote 710 out of what you have there.
but if you were considering fixed blades, i would HIGHLY recommend a bark river :D
i am extremely happy with my bumble bee

With $150, I would go for the Benchmade 710 and Buck Vantage Pro for a small $5 over your budget. The Benchmade 710 is a tested classic, and if you don't mind EDCing larger folders like the Military, the 710 should fit very nicely into your rotation.

The Vantage Pro is an unbelievable bargain with S30V steel and G-10 scales. This is one of the "hotter" folders being offered right now, and from what I've heard, some of the QC issues from the first run have been resolved.

My $.02, hope it helps.

My gut says 0500 because it is too fricking cool, and, everyone deserves a cool knife.

My wallet says "you are ready to spend 130ish bucks anyway, why not get the vantage AND the Shallot" :D

Honestly, it is hard to go wrong with the list you havebut my top 4 would be
0500 (cool)
0200 (extremely nice and useful)
Vantage (have been wanting to try one)
shallot (good all around gents knife)

I wish you luck, and, I am sure any of the ones listed above would make any knife nut happy.

Go for a MUDD or 710.

This would be my ranking, although I wouldn't buy any of the last three.

  1. Emerson CQC-10 ($130)
  2. Benchmade 710 ($110)
  3. Zero Tolerance ZT0200 ($130)
  4. Kershaw Shallot ZDP-189 ($80) - and - Buck Vantage Pro ($45)
  5. Zero Tolerance ZT0500 MUDD ($145)
  6. Zero Tolerance ZT0400 ($120)
  7. Cold Steel Gunsite ($70)
  8. Cold Steel Recon 1 ($75)
  9. Ontario RAT-1 ($30)

Zero Tolerance ZT0500 MUDD ($145)
Cold Steel Recon 1 ($75)
Buck Vantage Pro ($45)
Benchmade 710 ($110)
Kershaw Shallot ZDP-189 ($80)

I got rid of a few knives to make life easier for you guys. I took out the RAT, 0400, CQC-10 and 0200 because I already have decent linerlocks. I also took out the gunsite because i also have a fair amount of decent lockbacks. I want a wide variety of knives with different locking mechanisms and blades. I don't own any axis locks, hawk locks or framelocks which is why I kept the above knives on the list. I kept the vantage pro on there because it seems too good to pass up :)

There's an appalling lack of RAT Cutlery in your list :)

I think you should go for the Vantage pro, or the 710.

Do you have a good fixed blade yet? or are you a folder type of guy?

im taking a really hard look at the MUDD knife for my deployment. out of the ones you've mentioned this knife is quite a good choice.

I'm 100% folder at the moment. I want to expand my folder collection before I move onto fixed blades.

710

Since you've no axis locks, this might be a good time to try one out and see if you like it. Plus, the 710 is a tank of a blade and is well liked on the forums. With the cost at 110, you'll staill have some left over to try out some Byrd knives (great knives at low cost). Hope this helps.

If you don't have a purpose yet for the new knife, you have 2 reasonable options:

1) Save your money until there's something you have a use for, and then you'll have plenty of money to buy what you need

2) You're not worried about running short of funds later, so just buy whatever you think is coolest. Look around until you see something that makes you feel "I've gotta have that!", buy it and enjoy it.

Oh and remember, this isn't a popularity contest. Reviews can give you information about ergo's, build quality, maybe even heat treat, but your taste is your own. Don't buy something just because everyone else has.

I'm not sure what knife I should get next.
  • Kershaw Shallot ZDP-189 ($80)

Take the rest and get the Ontario RAT-1 or Buck Vantage Pro

I think I have decided. I'm going to pick up a shallot and a vantage pro. At this point having more knives would make me feel better :D
plus, this would leave me with a little bit of money left over to fund my next purchase.

I would narrow down to these myself... Probably would go with the Emerson or ZT500

Zero Tolerance ZT0200 ($130)
Zero Tolerance ZT0500 MUDD ($145)
Benchmade 710 ($110)
Emerson CQC-10 ($130)
