hay, guys haven't been on in a long time but yes i'm back. as u all know i have bk2,bk3,bk7,bk9,bk14,etc. I just bought the usmc combat knife and it's great i was wondering what to get next? no i am not big on folders so i am not really looking for a folder. I prefer a fixed blade knife.

Thanks,
John

John, as if you really had to ask. You could chase down some of the older Becker models, then there's ESEE, Busse(kin), BRK&T, Fallkniven, Fiddleback, Fehrman, just to name a VERY few. Then you might want to look into some of the now discontinued (and getting harder to find) CR one-piece knives. Man, the list is endless! If that is'nt enough, let me know when you're ready to chase some CUSTOMS!:D:D:D

well.

there's Johnson Adventure blades. very nice stuff. the potbelly chopper is awesome.

there's ESEE. the junglass should complement the Becker line nicely, as well as other products they make. great stuff.

Fallkniven makes some compelling knives.

oh, Becker? got one of everything? heck, more than one? BK13s should be in the pouch of every Becker you have :> or tied/glued/strapped on.

if you're very lucky, you COULD find some older Beckers. fine stuff :>

a Himalayan Imports Bonecutter might be the ultimate chopper i could recommend. plus a few more of their products.

or axes. got axes? that's a whole fetish right there.

Thanks: frontiersman,RABII,and Bladlite I'll have to look into some of your brand names.:). i've heard some bad stuff about the fallkniven's tho. dont know if its true or not but i don't really know i will look into those knives, what about cold steel knives i've heard great things about those knives any experience with them anyone? if so please leave a comment.

Thanks again,
John

Cold Steel makes great videos about their knives. I wish their knives were as good as their videos. Their warranty is also a joke considering all the trash they talk about other knives.

cold steel used to make some really nice nice knives, esp the carbon V, esp back in the day when Camillus was actually OEMing the knives for them ;) fantastic heat treat. no? i have no clue where they are sourcing their stuff. the old trail choppers, khukris, and master hunters? good stuff. i can't speak to their new stuff, esp the stainless, as i've only handled them, not bought or used them. just not my style. some of their primitive arts toys are very attractive to me though. throwing knives/spears/etc. nice. i hate copycats though.

fallkniven? i can't imagine a single one of their knives being a dog. ever. i would expect no less than shaving sharp from box, and for weeks to come. fantastic steel. on some of the models, with the exposed rear tang, they actually suggest as a method to take down small trees fast is to HAMMER the knife (f1 class) INTO the tree with a baton, all the way in, and then smite the handle back and forth until you basically cut the tree. nice, eh? i think i've seen pictures of some goofy 250+ lb dude standing on the test knife, and it didn't break

if you can point to material that says bad stuff about fallkniven, i'd love to see it :>

I know where they are gettin' their stuff made, but I can't say where. Not a secret, I was just asked not to say. Other companies are being made there as well, so, they don't want everyone to know you can get the same quality at a better price.

I second the Johnson stuff. I been meaning to get into them a little. Condor is making some great stuff now as well. I picked up a Kamunga this weekend, and for the price, its a blade modders dream. Priced to sell as well, with most of their line being under $50, and some great specialty stuff too boot.

Let's not forget Kabar, with a HUGE product release coming in a couple of months, you might want to save some money back, so you can get some REALLY badass stuff when it comes out.

i've been hoping to trip over a few more cool items this year, but perhaps i'm saving myself for 2001 :>

the Concord khukri and bolos are esp intriguing. i got to fondle most of their lineup at Blade 2009, and just haven't gotten around to grabbing stuff yet. their big toys are surprisingly well made, and have HEFT i wasn't expecting. still more khukri shaped than an actual Nepalese model, but they look REALLY chopperiffic for the size, and for people hankering for a Rheinhardt Khukri or a Patrol Machete, should fill the bill.

Kinda want a Johnson Pig Stick / Bacon Maker but not sure WHAT i'd use it for. just a nice stout knife. the Potbelly is a great bang for the buck 1/4 inch thick chopping machine, that might actually rival the Machax (lookout!)

I just added the Potbelly, and for the price, it may get here before the BK05. I don't need another chopper, but, hell, that ain't never stopped me before.:D

Condor is making some good stuff, I'll second that for sure.. nothing spectacular just functional..

anyone have one of their bushcraft knives??

moose,

how thick is the kumunga?

1/8" with a distal taper and a slight swell on the end. Interesting knife, but whoops ass. I don't know why they don't take the grind all the way down, and leave a ricasso like they do, but its good knife for not alot of money. My edge grind is off, but nothing that a few sharpenings can't fix. All in all, well balanced, HD, knife.
