I know that to most of you the BK-9 and BK-5 are old news what with the Machax and Tweeners coming out, but some of us still have yet to acquire a BK-9 or BK-5. When the time comes for me to buy a new blade, should I buy a BK-9, BK-5 or Machax? I know that the obvious answer is to buy them all at the same time, but that might have to wait. So if you can only get one, what would it be?

What need will this knife fill? That's the best place to start. I have to purchase my knives over time, so I usually look to see what role the next knife needs to fill and find out what fits best. If you want a beastly chopper, then the BK9 or BK4. If you want a good woods knife that will process game and dinner, then the 5 is a great choice. The 5 can chop and baton, too, but doesn't have the weight behind it that the others have.

That is a tough question
I don't have any of those knives either,
I think the BK9 and BK4 will both chop the best
and I'm sure the 9 can baton better than any of them,
since you have 9 inches of blade to thump on.
The BK5 would probably be the best all- rounder since it has the sweep in the blade
it can chop, baton and process game and food.
It all depends on the needs of your large camp knife are.

BK-9, the only knife that has made me actually laugh out loud (I think in a good way) when I pulled it out of its box.

Thank you all for your suggestions. I already have a BK-7, BK-2 and A BK-11. I already have several 9 in blades, but I do not have anything that is in the style of the machax. Even though I fully intend to use whatever I buy, I do not really need one style in particular. At this point its really a matter of personal preference, and I was wondering if yall could weigh in with some opinions of the three.

I would say since the 7 is similar enough to the nine to get the 4. Then the 5, then the 9... That's just my two sense...

Sadly, the BK-2, BK-7 and BK-11 are the only Becker blades I have as well. I too, am looking for a longer blade. I do have a couple longer blades " not the BK-9 though" I am looking for a blade to fill the "true chopper" position. The next blade I am be getting is the Machax. If you have a few nine inch regular blades, than why not get something different like the Machax. Also with the Machax your not just getting a "chopper" it's a very versatile blade.

The choice for me would be pretty much in the order I bought mine--the Bk-9 first, followed by the BK-5. I'll be getting a Machax tomorrow if I can find one for sale.

Seriously.....you know you're going to get them all. :D The BK9 is the knife I take when I don't know what to expect. You'll be well heeled enough to handle just about anything.

I'd say Machax since the 7 is sort of halfway between the 5 and 9.

If the Machax sell out quickly and go on back order or something you could always get the 5 or 9.

Based on what you have already I would say get the BK5. That's the one I would get next as well as I have the BK11, BK2 & BK9.

I just got my 5 in the mail today, and I think I'm in love. Don'thave the 9, so I can't speak to it, but the 5 is pretty sweet in hand.
