What paint do you use to redo or touch-up that black coat finish on your knives?

What kind of paint is good for touching up that black finish on your work knives? I know some people who use engine paint and muffler paint to redo the finish on their guns. When I went searching for paint online, all the engine paint were high gloss and satin finish. I prefer the flat non-glare look.

Any of you tried to paint your knives? What paint did you use and how was the results? I'm planning on painting my CS Kukri machete.

on something like a machete/etc were ya want some additional protection from elements any good flat black paint (or really any other color)would be fine, like krylon or duplicolor engine color - as far as touching up finishes, most finishes still protect even if scuffed up/scratched, so ya shouldnt need it except for looks, and imho any spray paint is gonna look funky on a nice folder, it aint gonna look like the black finish applied by BM/MT/etc, nor wear like it, i guess it would still help protect against the elements some, so if ya dont mind it looking funky, it wouldnt hurt nothing i dont guess.

kinda why i dont like coated knives anymore, too anal about the scuffs lol.

why dont you get artistic? bead blast it and create your own acid etch design.

tribal perhaps.

A black rust preventive paint called POR15 does the trick nicely. Look it up. It works great on old trucks and cars to restore them and or seal them up to prevent rust.

I don't care about the scruffs, but for a temporary paint job Kiwi Edge Dressing holds up nicely.

Personally I won't worry about touching it up if it's a work knife. Not really worth the effort. And the scratches... trust me on this, they add character. No kidding.

Just bead blast it. It looks better and all you really have to do is oil it every few days, no big deal.
