What papers for disc grinder?

Ok now that I have a usable disc grinder I need to get some papers for it. I am familiar with papers for hand sanding and mostly use Gatorgrit or 3M SiC paper. I have tried a couple times with this on the disc grinder, but for roughing in the bevel it just doesn't cut it. What brands and grits would you guys recommend I get? I would like to be able to take it to about 400# on the grinder to reduce hand sanding, but if that's not a good idea I can stop at a lower grit. I prefer to use sheet paper rather than PSA discs because of cost. Also should I use a backing material to cushion it slightly, or just glue straight to the Al disc?

for rough grinding i use a 24 grit but the steel i grind has a rc of 56 so it takes something coarse to cut it. if you use a coarse grit on softer steel it will cut down on the time it takes to make a knife considerably. once i get the main bevels ground i switch to the belt sander with an 80 grit belt to get rid of the curved lines from the disk. from that point on i work up to finer grits stopping at 400.

i glue directly to the disk without any backing.
