Had to share this as its made me so angry !

I've been a member on a Jack Russell fan page on FB for a number of years and posted pics most weeks.
Anyway I was looking through some old pics and came across this pic of a rabbit killed by an owl, I found the curiosity of my dogs quite humorous. I figured I'd share the pic with the comment ' is this what we are supposed to chase ?', I was inundated with people saying take it down or you will be banned !
What the hell do they think Jack's were bred for ?

Welcome to facebook. Seriously there are a lot of hopefully well meaning folks out there who have no idea how the world works. Disney is more real to them than the farm. You could try to educate them but I would imagine you will become frustrated.

My border terrier would have killed it twice and then eaten it. With a clean conscience.

(I'm sure you are aware that BT's are occasionally bred into Jack Russel lines....to improve their hunting abilities. :) )

I just cant wrap my head around the hyper sensitivity that can be displayed by otherwise "adult" human beings.

Seems like so many now a days search out things that make them feel funny in their belly to cry about!

Good looking dog. I was thinking about getting a Jack Russell a few years back but it never happened.

Always loved Borders but they are as rare as unicorns over here !

I met an old fella a while back who had a few dogs including a Border, he said his had even killed a Beaver, they are one animal I wouldn't want to mess with !

Better watch out pitdog! Get your dogs a good lawyer and they may very well avoid some prison time. I can't believe the crap some people will call out, dogs are dogs they do what they do, it's not like they are looking over a human body in the picture...... By the way unicorns are goooood eatin!

Just ask them why in the world the dogs have large canine teeth. They certainly aren't for eating grass.

Likewise to people who say we as humans have no right to use animals for food because we are not above them. So i say fine, I'll be just like a lion and eat other animals. Or maybe a bear, since they are omnivores and eat all kinds of things. I won't be higher or lower than a bear...

Too many people think that the meat the buy at the grocery store was somehow produced without harming any animals. I once had a coworker who was a huge meat-lover, but she could not reconcile her love for beef with her stance on not harming animals. So if you dared to mention the word slaughterhouse in her presence, she would literally plug her ears and say "la la la la la la" until the subject was changed.

In the theory of human evolution adding meat to the diet allowed our evolutionary ancestors to grow larger brains.
Making a moral imperative out of eating or not eating meat seems stupid to me. I eat meat, other people don't have to, the line gets drawn for me when people start drawing up trivial moral-isms.

I love the argument that people aren't actually supposed to eat meat... yeah okay, then why did we develop tools to help us kill? We invented blades, spears, bows...just for protection right? Why is that chimps, arguably our closest "cousins", have been documented hunting and killing small mammals to eat?
It really makes me wonder how long some of these people would last stranded on an island with none of their veggie patty burgers. I bet many of them would turn into a carnivore real quick if push came to shove and all they had to eat was cute lil bigs bunny.

So, the whole 'hurting animals' thing, there are a lot of ways to avoid that. For one, don't eat mass produced meat. Or at least ecologically grown meat. (not to be confused with environmentally grown etc. theres a lot of fun words people like to use to market how awesome stuff is, like organic, seriously all foods are carbon based) It'll cost more, but then again, you are getting more nutrients so it balances out that way. Another way, try to eat things that aren't, arguably sentient. Like clams. Certain animals 'react' to pain, instead of feeling pain. A lot of these are invertebrates which I don't like eating, but clams, shrimp, etc. don't have brains, so arguably they don't have the concept of consciousness, just 'ouch.' Then again I just had fast food. Morals are hard, and lets be honest, a well prepared steak is irresistible (though a grass fed one tastes much better, I don't have that much money all the time, and I just had fast food today) What bothers me most about your coworker is that she wants something enough to not care about it. That's called planet ignorance.

If J.R.T.'s were the same size as pit bulls, I dont think the pitties would stand a chance. My brother has one that regularly takes on raccoons. Big vet bills!--KV

Yep. People are whacko. Dad regularly gets "I hope you die a painful death" posts when he puts up a pic of any coyotes he killed.

They wouldn't like what I feed my dogs then. Muskrat, Rabbit, Emu, Salmon, Whiteing, etc. They eat better then me!

I had a Jack Russell for 15 years, or did she have me. Got her when she was 7 weeks and that dog could do anything, even out think many humans. Her nickname was The Terminator. She didn't feel heat, cold, pain and she simply would not stop until whatever she was after was dead. She would go to elaborate lengths to see that through.

Once she flattened a Doberman to the ground in fear and regularly backed bigger dogs off their food bowls to take their treats on top.

But she was sweet to me...

I have some sympathy with your position because as you may be aware by now I have a life long affinity with lurcher type dogs. However, your reasoning might not lead to places you have anticipated.

“What the hell do they think Jack's were bred for ?”

Some dogs were bred to kill otters and bait bears. Are you comfortable with people posting up pictures of that on a forum where other people have no reasonable expectation of seeing that?

Some dogs were bred to attack threats to the pack and the nest it lives among. If someone's wee schitt of a child roams on my property uninvited and unannounced, and my dog tears the face of it fine (well morally speaking anyway, I'm sure there would be some legal bilge). Anyway, if I posted pictures of that up on a forum where people would have no reasonable expectation of seeing that do you suppose I'd receive complaints?

How do you reconcile your reasoning with that?

I kinda get what ya saying but (A) My dogs didn't kill this, an owl did, I just photographed their natural curiosity. And (B) Bears and Otters aren't really classed as vermin, most people are happy to see mice, rats and rabbits reduced in population.
I personally don't care what animals people hunt providing it is killed humanely and eaten if possible.

Mine being a typical Terrier again today and trying to follow a squirrel she chased !

Mine puts my new bull terrier in her place !
