Due to the recent discussion about BCCI club knives I thought I'd ask this question.
I'm sure it depends what the knife is - model number, upgrades, inlays, etc. but this could help future decisions by the board. Those questions/polls can come later.
I'm not sure if it wise to discuss a 2018 knife when the 2017 just hit the shelves, but it will be the 30th aniv. and I personally would like to see two knives (high end and lower end $$).

As a side note. I wonder how well the 25th knives sold?

The 'Club Knife' is special. It is a one time a year offering with gold etching inlays. A real dressy knife. Those will be higher. I think I have 3 of
those. The up grade user knives I like more and purchase more. A limited edition the club puts together. Some I like others I don't. Just what
the Board decides to bring out. We have little in put. DM

Again, I will suggest. The only sure way to make your feelings known is to email board members directly. Use the newsletter or E-newsletter board list for email addresses. You could also go to the comment section in the BCCI website or the BCCI Facebook page. In the BCCI information world the Buck section of Blade Forums is out in left field, instead bunt it back to the pitcher and use email. 300

Surely we can get more than 11 votes here. There is also similar discussion at the BCCI site and the FB page.

I think it's a "cart versus horse" question.
Meaning that price point is 2nd to a model that will sell.
Example, what's the point of a knife in the $75-$100 range if it's something of little interest? Whereas a model of greater interest could be embellished accordingly to keep within a price range.

I think the course should be to pick a model, then price range based on options.

Some months ago there was a conversation about a stacked leather 124. Seemed everyone wanted to sell their left foot to get one so I posted a question about it and generally how club knives were chosen on BCCI and all these months later it's not received any replies...

MT, I thought about that but posted the poll anyway to get a feel where people would move their money. Perhaps it would run what model, then how much would you pay?
However, it still doesn't stop someone from clicking a price point. Either way there will be judgement on price and knife. Looks nice but cant afford (recent limited editions), cheap enough but it doesn't look that nice (s30v spitfire)

Seems like more posts were about voting vs knife. I figured it would be the other way around. I expected a 4 page thread with 87 different knife suggestions :)

i joined bcci fairly recently, don't know the politics of the club y'all hint at in various threads and kinda glad i don't. i like hobbys and interests to be fun and stress free. life already has too much stress and politics in it already.

i did post and vote though.:)

Thanks, MaxCast, for the poll. I voted and also posted some of my thoughts on the BCCI website.

I agree, Mt_Pokt, it's a matter of the knife, embellishments and price. As we saw on the SK Blades poll there are many members with differing thoughts on knife design. I do like the 124 and would like to see one offered, stacked leather would be great and I'd buy one...depending on the price;) Preston

BCCI members are primarily collectors.
What's the chief characteristic of a collector?
They are notoriously picky, hard to please and slow to open their wallets.
They're looking at value and how a potential future trade or sale would go.
Collectors are programmed to look for, not just bargains, but incredible scores and I've never seen any scores among the club knives. Overpriced knives give collectors indigestion and wind.
Hard to come up with a knife spectacular enough to overcome tightwads and confirmed parsimony.
That's a big part of this problem.

Some of what you have posted is true to a certain point, I don't agree with it all. Don't know if you're a BCCI member, but, the club knives are for fund raising as well as collecting. The club has to met certain requirements, numbers wise, of Buck Knives in order to go into production and then must make their profit. As much as I would have liked to support the club...there have been many offerings in past years that I had no interest in and/or couldn't part with the money. I guess as much as I don't want to, I fit your profile. BTW, I had to look up parsimony;). Preston

I too agree with both of you. I'd imagine Buck transfers the knife at very close to cost so the club can generate income. Everyone wants a deal so paying retailish prices is not a catch. I think more members would pay for a knife in their budget with a look they would be proud of. That is more to the essence of this thread. Get a price point(s), model number(s) and finish it out with what members would like to see. What do we want to see?

And thanks to all those that voted. I still encourage a vote and discussion on what members would like to see. It can only help those making the decision. Perhaps someone can word a new thread on design and poll on model number.

Politics? I went in assuming there were none. Hope I'm very close. :)

And therein lies the root of the problem.
It's extremely difficult to provide a knife with wide and great appeal at a bargain price.
Maybe the club should look at other ways to make a profit and just focus on giving members an appealing collectible for a bargain price.

All BCCI Members should go to the BCCI website...
Tell the Officers and Board Members what you think
about voting and any change you would like to see
happen in the Club... John Foresman and other are
waiting to hear from all member...
So if you want any kind of change on how things are
done for the club... Now is a good time to Voice your
opinion...

agreed, but then we would have people joining just to get the knife. I think the first goal is to get member input on a knife. So far it has been a surprise. If we gave them 4 well supported ideas I am sure I would be happy with #2 if my fav was not produced. I think this years knife looks good although it has received some criticism. Not even sure if it is on FB yet. The pic in the newsletter is not high enough quality to help it sell.

Ok, I went to BCCI site and posted my thoughts toward this. Don't understand Why it has to be played this way...
We've always had people join just to purchase a knife they liked. Or they thought would sell. No big deal. They may then become
interested in Buck collecting. DM

Thanks DM for that. I guess I was being protective. Club knives can be seen as a tool in more than one way.

Had a long day. Going to enjoy a beer, pick a new LP and polish up a couple basic 110's I got this week. Maybe post em on the FB. :D

I agree that it would be good to survey members and get maybe THREE finalist knives to choose from and then the club could choose one........I think the club would sell more knives that way and if they sell more they can sell at lower prices, too.
