What Quality Knife Makers are putting out zany / oddball knives?

I've really enjoyed checking out Daniel Fairly's tie dye pieces. His anodized mini pry bars are cool for example.

I also think Snody's work is great. He seems to put out some crazy colors and I always love that Dollar Sign.

Who else is putting out quality oddball work?

(oddball in this instance is a good thing.)

For oddball, and I mean for my favorite mid-tech USA made only knife manufacturer, TOPS knives do have some oddball knives that even I have to admit are over the TOP. I can say this, because I really like TOPS knives, so my assessment of their expansive catalog is purely objective in nature. You will more then likely get purely subjective POV regarding TOPS, but know they are just, subjective, made by those who really don't own or ever have used a TOPS knife.;)

TOPS, Extrema Ratio, Dark Ops, Brous Blades, etc certainly do "zany," but I don't know if I would associate extraneous tactifabulous design elements with "quality."

Thought-provoking question though!

Actually, Spyderco has never been afraid to think outside the box, while never sacrificing functionality/quality for the sake of "design."

No doubt they were considered "zany" back in the day.

I'm saying that I consider these makers quality. The extra design elements just add some pizzazz. Thanks for the suggestions

Todd Begg

I think Todd Begg's work looks pretty crazy. It sort of has a Star Trekky feel though. I like knives that have a sort of reserved design with just a little pop from a patina or anodization or something ya know?

alnamvet68: I cruised around the TOPS site some. I bookmarked it for later

I was thinking of Spyderco too. The Captain, Khukuri, Barong (I guess Ed Schempp should get most of the credit though, he has amazing and crazy designs), pretty much their entire Ethnic Line-up, the Gunting, Jot Singh Kalsa, and a lot more I can't even remember all are well outside the norm for knives.

Snody's knives are quite unique, but I have yet to see his knives used in real world applications by anyone, in any forum, or in any print media; purely collector's knives.

I have some hard use knives. I wouldn't mind a few light use with style. Not ready for the no use knife.

I've noticed that some of these semi custom mid tech knives are built to be bomb proof but priced so that the user doesn't feel good about hacking away at things with them. It makes me kind of sad because these knife makers put a lot of work into making their products tough.

Although it's not the kind of thing I made this post to look for, that spyderco captain is kind of awesome. Thanks!

Alan Davis and Uncle Joe are both makers on here that do very interesting work.

Uncle joes work is nice. I like those patinas!

Alan Davis' Damascus is looking good too.

Both are makers I'd consider buying from. Neither is exactly what I'm looking for right now. Thanks for the tips!
