Title says it all....my contest thread.

I like to help people on the side of the road.....Especially motorcyclists. Sometimes I will give out a five dollar bill to someone begging for some change.

Have you had anybody do something for you?
Do you do things for strangers?

peace, John

I always try to be courteous and respectful. This seems to make people happy, and as a consequence interacting with people becomes more enjoyable. It’s a nice feedback loop.

Every year I help with the local "SCOUTS" pan cake supper, by cooking the sausage for everyone. I Also help with the local SCOUT camp with cleaning up trails and making new camp sites.

I'm not sure I think random acts of kindness is suitable material for a competition, but I'll share some of mine:

You can read about one, here:

Also, when I see couples (out on a beach, or at a nice mountain overlook, etc.) floundering to take a picture of themselves together against the nice background, for a souvenir, I stop to take their pictures.

When I won a knife of a kind I already had in one of Jerry Busse's contests on this forum, I gave it to the person who came in second, because he didn't have any, yet.

When I'm taking the train, I help the elderly up the big step, helping them board the train. I also help the elderly carry their luggage.

When people stop me to ask me technical questions about photography (happens constantly when you are out in public with serious photo gear), I try to answer their questions.

I stop for every dog and cat I come across, and give it a good rub, until it's thoroughly pleased.

I save the lives of innumerable butterflies, starfish, wild bird chicks, etc., from over-zealous tourists.

I am involved with a charity which photographs orphans, to help them get placed with families, and photographs the elderly and infirm, to help them get placed with long-term care-takers.

I offer free use of some spiffy nature pics to natural history organizations and nature conservation organizations.

I share a friendly smile and conversation with those who are down on their luck.

I carry out as much litter as I can carry from the wilderness, almost every day.

I'm sure there's a lot more, but that's all I can come up with, right now.

Cheers,

––Mike

I like dropping a little change in parking meters for people when the "Ticket Fairies" are on the prowl. :p

You know, I actually had somebody tell me that it was illegal to do that.

WOW...illegal?...I have done that too. I pay some strangers toll over the bridge sometimes too.

Yeah...the only way that I could rationalize it was that you're stealing potential ticket money from the city.

Mike

You are going to give me diabetes with all that sweetness.! Go stick that PBF in something, quick!

For my random acts of kindness, I USUALLY refrain from shooting someone from NY or NJ who moves down here and then bores the $hit out of me telling me how great it is in NY or NJ.

If I do shoot, it's with a .22LR, since they aren't worth the cost of a .45 round.

They also don't understand that I95 also goes North.

I sent Skunk a good bottle of Scotch when the company store was out of knives and he was starving :)

i drank a bottle of scotch once not knowing whether it was poison or not... it did make me feel a lil dizzy:p

Putting money into the parking meter for a strangers car IS illegal. Yes you are taking potential ticket money away from the city/state. They will write you a ticket if they see you doing it. How's that for a gov't that's here to protect and serve you  .

Going back to the original thread topic. I love doing good and kind things for others but personally I get all of my enjoyment from nobody knowing that I've done it.

I'll list one of my favorites just for fun:

When I was in my late teens to early twenties I partied quite a lot. We would get sloppy drunk, and I mean sloppy drunk. A time or ten I was the last one standing or should I say swaying. At the time I thought it was a good thing that I could drink a case and a six pack without passing out  .Sometimes I would get bored so I would go into the kitchen and wash all of their dishes and clean up all of the beer bottles and cans. I never told any of them, alot of whom I didn't even know, that I was the culprit.

And I never broke a dish. :D ;)

I gave a woman with two kids $400 in cash for Christmas after overhearing them talking in the Store.

Just handed her the cash, told her to buy the kids what they wanted, said Merry Christmas and split.

I have never seen these folks before, never will again..................

Felt good.

hope ya didnt spend another 4 bills on any more "flying across room at last minute exploding blades"---yeah--i remember---

anyway--merry christmas:eek:

I am an EMT on a volunteer fire department ambulance and if that isn't random I don't know what would be.....what with calls at all hours, vehicle extrications etc. I will also try to help stranded motorists and when offered pay, tell them to reciprocate by helping others in the same way. I've been buying Christmas dinner for a destitute older couple by means of a gift certificate in December at a local grocery store for a couple of years now (nicest people you'd ever meet). As mentioned earlier I also gave my Battle Mistress E to a my son's friend who is on his way to Iraq. Sounds like I'm tootin' my own horn, but you asked and it's nice to know others out there are doing the same stuff. Ya know, one thing I have learned in life, true sportsmen and women are typically some of the greatest people you'll ever meet as you go through this world. :D

Good stuff Mike! This thread gives one pause to reflect on whether we do enough in our lives. Thanks for bringing it up.

Great Post and also I don't want Fixer27 to win Jerry's contest with his trolling behavior. Come on everyone join in and ignore Fixer27's post.

:D:D
